Which door did you order? I'm seriously considering one myself and possibly moving my birds back to the barn again.

Not cheap but came highly recommended.

Having chickens is stupid. Let the neighbor raise them and pay the $2 a dozen! Pain in the ass
I have 32 of them…. Trust I know the pain.

And nobody talks about your wife who suddenly becomes "the crazy CHICKEN momma." Or the frozen water bowls. Or the fact they crap in their water bowls daily. Or how your lawn looks like a pillow factory exploded when your GSP finally breaks into the chicken coop after all those failed attempts. (Don't ask me how I know.)

Or how momma suddenly spends more on groceries "because the chickens can eat the leftovers". How about we just eat the chicken and end this shit?

Or you get a call from ur insurance man asking how much your rooster weighed saying ur neighbor down the road needs a new headlight...then proceeds to ask if i trust my neighbor and do u think they were traveling at a high rate of speed....eggs are good but is it truely worth all the unaviodable deaths that will most certainly happen in their short little lives?

Ya'll are making me look forward to this even more!

Seriously though I know a number of you have the feathered things. BTW @giles I've heard you say the same thing about turkey hunting.

My kids really want them, I've always thought having some would be nice and I have sucessfully raised/killed/processed a batch of meat birds so I'm not unfamilar with the idea.

Besides if things continue going as they are it'll be nice to have the ability to have more bartering goods if we continue trying to race to a Venezuelan/Roman ending.

The irony of Mr. Survival himself shitting on one of the most basic and important homestead occupants is not lost on me 😉 Chickens are great and I'll never not have them. Super easy to keep them if you do it right and that's from someone who lost 30+ chickens over a 5 year span trying to get it all figured out. Now that I'm a seasoned chicken farmer, I can't imagine not having them.

It is work. I'm not convinced the effort is worth the reward. That's all I'm saying. I'm a crazy when it comes to survival stuff, but I'm thinking I would be money ahead if I made our coup hold meat rabbits this year. Convincing the crazy chicken lady is the hard part.
Interesting thing about rabbits is they are about the most efficient animal at converting feed into red meat.

And if done right, you only need to buy 2 and you'd never have to buy any again.

I lost though and she wants to do meat chickens. So we buy a dozen...feed them out...harvest...repeat. insanity

Trust me I know how it is…. I have 32 laying hens and 14 meat birds. Meat birds are going to the freezer come first of April
