Up with the peak of it now. Per the weather we have 54 mph sustained and 85 mph gusts at the moment. I still have power for the time being so that's a blessing. The storm has deteriorated on the SW side which is a good reprieve for those that have been getting slammed all day in SW Louisiana. Maybe now some first responders and the cajun navy can get to some of them. Nick and I are on what's called the dirty side of the storm, that's the eastern side catching wind fresh off the gulf, unlike the other side where the wind has to traverse land for half a rotation before blowing down from the north. A few more hours of this and the wind will start to slow. The waffle house here is still open and serving the full menu. If they go to the limited menu its getting pretty bad. If they announce a closure ahead of a storm it's time to evacuate. Seriously. WH is known for keeping the doors open through some pretty serious storms. They even have jump teams on standby to get into communities to get locations reopened after a storm. The news earlier said that they closed only 6 locations in Louisiana ahead of the storm. They're so good at disaster recovery the last FEMA director actually used what he called the Waffle House Index to help judge the extent of community devastation and ability to recover from a storm. 😅

Over here in the Panhandle it's been real sedate, for having a monster in the neighborhood. A little rain, we're 5-10 miles outside the north shearing bands, winds topped at 30mph in gusts. When you live here - you know it's not a matter of if but when you get smashed by one of those monsters. Great updates @Jackalope. Be well and PPE up prior to picking the leaves... ;)
