This cold weather I can pick them up by hand. The other day I had to turn around as I forgot something at the camp. I was going slow and counting the woodcock on the edge of the road just outside the ditch. It was an ag field w natural cut grass to the road, overcast evening

Went to town and coming back peoples ponds had wild ducks in them. We drove next to an old oxbow river and had wild birds in it. Stopped at a buddy’s camp that has an acre pond to blast his but none were present 😂. Going back before the camp I told Hb about the woodcock I seen and we start looking. Yup one here, one there. I was tempted to get out and catch one cause Dave want to see a cock in my hand w a pulse.

Didn’t move any woodcock but had an opportunistic snipe hunt. Pretty neat little bird

Took two more snipe today. Couldn’t get the dogs to point them today. Will probably quit messing with the snipe, I don’t want the dogs to become conditioned that it’s okay to bust birds up.

Birds are very flighty bc they are all sitting in this short mowed stuff that is wet.

no pictures of the birds cuz I was on the turtle head express on a race home

Last weekend of woodcock down here. Finally got them back up here after the freeze. The woods were flooded but any thick cover that was out of the water had a bird on it.

Bo was the banner dog of the day. He had 3 solid points on solo birds. I only connected on 1.

Ellie pointed two birds but they flushed before I got within 75 yards. Not sure if she moved or if the bird got jumpy.

I took a snipe to get a comparison to the woodcock.
