Ohio sucks

Oh, I agree from a semantics standpoint. When I was coaching baseball I used to say there are kids who play baseball and there are ballplayers. Same with bowhunting. Lots of people bowhunt, but bowhunters are a different breed.
Can't help it. Become a total elitist in the last 5 years. I've stopped visiting forums, stopped going to the local shop, stopped talking hunting with other strangers who hunt. I can't do it anymore. Probably had to deal with moving back to NJ and seeing a completely different, classless but not trashless, type of hunter everyday, but I can't do it anymore. I won't bash the xbow, but it's allowed far too many gun hunters into my happy place. And I really do think enough of these guys are tagging out early now. NJ is a clear indicator that not everyone matures as they bowhunt. The amount of deer we kill every year seems crazy, but they're always back the next. Of course not in any mature form, but always plenty of deer.

But yea, I don't give a shit anymore. I can't deal with these new hunters that are my age. Instead of sticking my nose in the air, I just hide it now. Going to a recurve this summer to try to get back to enjoying hunting since I can't shoot mature deer around here...

I hear you on not wanting to talk hunting with people any more. Because I'm a "bowhunter" and most everyone knows that, I get sucked in to talking with retards all the time. As soon as the phone comes out and they say "let me show you this deer...", I want to scream. Occasionally I get to talk deer with similar minded folks, but it's a rarity. I am an elitest in that regard.

You and I had that discussion in Missouri.

It happens so often with people on the periphery of my personal and professional life that it's worn me out.
Pretty much why I only talk deer with my brothers on TOO. Nobody in my area gets it, everyone has to one up. I could go the rest of my life hunting by myself, or with a TOO brother.

I just want to be the guy that enjoys the outdoors. I don't mind reaping a little extra reward when I take home meat either. I don't consider myself a bowhunter. I'm just a hunter.

I understand the one up to a point. It's how I view how good of a hunter I am, in some regards. I'll pull the phone out, but when I do, I'm already talking, or sometimes trying to shut someone up...

My friends get annoyed with me. I shot a 120 this year on public, and all I did was complain. Not that I wasn't happy about killing a nice buck after 8 nearly deerless days, but because the only number that mattered was 2. He was 2.... And guys just don't understand the desire to shoot a 4+yo. But I needed meat bad, I wasn't dragging a doe out of there, and it was literally the first deer I had a shot at.

And yea, dealing with even people in my professional life and always having to be PC has worn me out.

Haha. And have you guys ever worked a hunting related trade show? Ruined me. Here's a trick that has helped me when the phones come out; "Nice one". Try that, then walk off. It helps.

Btw, if it's someone I know well, I'll look at every pic and listen to every story and actually enjoy it. Problem I have is that so many people "measure" themselves via deer. I don't get that.

I'm personally an overachiever. And when I can't figure mature deer out, I view myself as subpar. That's my deer dick issue...

But I'd honestly rather dive nowadays anyway. The same rush isn't there, but it's way more fun.

Yeah. I called myself a failure a week or so back because if I was going to kill one it would be due to luck rather than out witting them. I did kill one. Am I lucky? Partially, Yes. BUT, it was in a stand placed there because I knew it was a prime rut funnel which would eventually pull a solid deer to me. Never thought it was going to happen in December but it did.

What I don't understand about some people is why they so backassward when it comes to helping someone out or lending advice. Makes it hard for a new guy that wants to learn.

That drives me absolutely nuts too. I'm getting so tired of everyone being all about the antlers instead of the hunt itself... The experience in general. But I think what annoys me the most are the guys who make up excuses about shooting a certain deer. Snoke did it last year. Now I've already seen it half a dozen times on Facebook this year. Things like, "he's not the biggest but I'm in grad school," or "I've killed bigger but I didn't have as much time to hunt.". Etc etc etc. What the hell ever happened to just being proud of a deer you killed? They obviously want to show it off if it's on FB or Instagram... So then why do they have to try to validate why they shot it, like they're embarrassed about it? That shit really chaps my ass and it's ruining deer hunting.
