Jamie, which of these shears are what you use? The garden shears?

This is what he has posted earlier in this thread Ric, it's a picture of the cutters.... Looks like the 8th one down from the top of your link....

I use the Stihl hand pruners. Not saying they are better or worse. I know they are easily found at your local Stihl dealer. Pretty sure have lifetime warranty. Believe they are in the $15-21 range.

You use the hand pruners to cut the critter open or just to cut off the feet & head? Seems like it would be a bit unwieldy to do any slitting up the middle.

I probably don't deserve a dog like Lefty. he makes me so mad sometimes I could strangle him, he makes me so goddamned happy the rest of the time I wonder how I could ever even get mad at him. he has his flaws, but what the hell? who doesn't? he is as good at finding squirrels as ANY squirrel hunter could expect. a real meat dog that likes hunting for squirrels as much as he likes finding them.

less than ideal conditions today, snowing the entire time we hunted this afternoon, but dog did good today. found more than a limit for me, I let a couple go on doubles and a couple timbered out straight to a den. pickins start getting slim this time of year, but some were out, mostly laid up. he winded at least three of the squirrels I shot today, and that is special.

I've been out hunting with my buddy and his two dogs several times in the last week now that he is well enough to do it. been trying to get him out in the woods with his dogs and to get him some squirrels to put up as much as possible before time runs out. we haven't done fabulous, even with three good dogs. squirrels just not been very active, but we've gotten a dozen or so. he couldn't go today, so I went solo with Lefty. it was pretty breezy, but he did a good job, and we would have gotten a limit, but I missed the last one he treed in a badly swaying tree top. squirrel only sat still for one shot. I failed to make it, and squirrel ran straight to a leaf nest, poste haste. still, we got five on three different stops. one, three, and one. try again with the old man and Lefty's kin folk again tomorrow. I'm pretty lucky, and happy, that I have the time to go out with him. he could not do it by himself, and I know how much joy it brings him to be in the woods with his dogs again after what he's been through.

Good job on the squirrels.
Nice you are able to take your buddy out,i am sure that is the best therapy he could ever want.
Just hope when we get older we have some younger friends to do that for us.

Brian, I sure hope we do. after all this man has done for me, shared with me, put up with me, it's the least I can do. I don't do it so I can feel all warm and fuzzy inside, I'm obligated, and fortunate to be so. friends gotta take care of friends.

I think you must have a magic portal that takes you to fox squirrel land! I have a few at my place but the grays outnumber them by about 10 to 1.
