Kristi and I had an absolute blast in Islamorada with Blue Heaven Charters again this year! We fished for two days and had pretty much non stop action both days. Second day a fill in first mate didn’t show so Captain Skye said “no problem, I got Ron”. As Kristi said, it was the best thing that could could’ve happened for me. I loved it! The blackfin I’m holding was over 25# and the mahi was over 20#.

We left our backpacks we travel with at the camper. Bought these bags at Costco and used them as our personal items. Fish has to be frozen. We then packed some newspaper on top for additional insulation. I weighed them when we got home. We have almost 58# of filets. There was a couple of guys on our flight that had Yeti backpack coolers and another bag. They had to pay $70 for a carry on. Another option my buddy and his wife used that fished the first day with us was having it shipped home. They used the Islamorada Fish Co. who vacuum sealed and froze it for $3.50/lb and then packaged and shipped it. They will get it tomorrow.

Before we lost our place from Ian, we used a vacuum sealer. This time we used freezer zip locks and dipped them in a bucket of water to get all the air out before freezing. We have brought fish home this way numerous times.
