This is the longest solo drag I've done and I'll never do it again lol. Just over 700 yards crossing a creek that's probably 30' across twice. Shot with my bow and circled around and died on the far side creek bank. Had to wade across and drag her back to land. Field dressed and drug her out crossing the creek a second time just before getting to the truck. 2 creek crossings and 3 overgrown pastures later lol.

I'm not ashamed to say I've passed deer because I didn't want to drag them out by myself lol. It's also the very reason I don't go hunting much these days. Between the hectic work schedule limiting my time in the woods and not wanting to kill myself getting one out lol.

I'm going to change that for next season. Already have a few things on my must purchase list to help me out.

Many years ago I was hunting deep in a thick nasty jersey swamp. Had to wear waders to cross 3 1/2 feet deep water to get to a small island that had many fingers jutting into the swamp. The deer used the waterways as travel corridors to avoid the thick undergrowth. They were very busy deer super highways! After shooting an average basket rack 8 pointer at about 11:00 am, I got down and gutted/tug the buck. I had to pack out my gear as I was sitting all day along with my muzzleloader….while dragging the deer through the swamp. When I finally hit the swamp edge, I had to continue through some pretty nasty brush. I got back to my truck at around 9:00pm. I was alot younger and in pretty good shape and that drag whooped me! I never hunted that stand again! It wasn’t worth the effort for a average buck and I had access to places that were a lot easier to hunt.

You make fun of me for deer ball pics and you give them a free tug? Dafaq Sgt

Sloppy mud and having to cross water in ure case, I'd quarter and make 2 trips.
If I ever hunt back there again that's exactly what I plan to do. Things on the property changed when the old man died last year. His daughter and SIL now decide who can go where. The last pic is now off limits as their daughters boy friend hunts it. South of the creek is given to their neighbor to hunt. Pretty nice spots to hunt back there but the wind swirls like a mfer back there as it hits a high wall. I'm not only allowed to hunt across the road. Still pretty decent ground but I'm also not allowed to gun hunt it. Bow hunting only.

The 1st pic is the adjoining property that I have permission to hunt and I can gun hunt that portionof the woods/field. There use to be a nice tractor path between the fencerow and ag field on the north side but the guy now farming it wanted 4 more rows of crop so he took out the path. I'm not sure why he bothered to do that because it's too close to the trees and not much gain from the crap crop that grows. I would love to have that path back so I could drive back to the woods if needed.
