Honey suckle destruction

The woods
Down here we have Crate Myrtle trees that people plant in their landscapes. They're similar to a sumac in growth rate and species. If you cut one down it goes into defensive mode like the tree of heaven and sends up hundreds of shoots from the roots. I cut one down, drilled 1 inch holes in the top of the stump and poured straight 40% glyphosate in the holes and put a tile over it to keep rain out. The sucker still sprouted! 🤣

Another three I cut down and painted the top of the stumps with undiluted imapyzere. View attachment 194561

Worked on 2 out of 3. 🤣

I will say that I did quite a bit of hack and squirt on the acre behind my house and the imapyzere did a fantastic job. It does not however work on pine trees. I think it's because when cut the pines immediately sap and wash the cut amd seal it which is what they're supposed to do.
I've found that at the end of the day sometimes nature just does whatever the hell it wants. There have been times when I've done everything 100% by the book and come back later in the year and the invasives I have been working on were resprouting like crazy. Then ill go check another job where the exact same thing was done and no resprouting at all. Either way, it's never a one and done deal for invasive species management. Its always a work in progress. I try to explain this to some of the NR workers straight out of college, not all answers are found in a text book. 1+1 doesn't always equal 2 in the natural resources management world. Experience is the best education.

You could try some rock salt or water softener salt pellets. I never recalled any attempted tree regrowth after leaving some of that on top a stump drilled with some 1” holes. Takes a couple years to rot out unless it’s a black locust then it petrifies.

My goodness I never heard of this Tree of Heaven before till I read this thread a few weeks back. After seeing how prevalent it is along every road or highway from my house to Frankfort-Louisville and back I can’t believe how invasive it is. It’s right up there with kudzu, honeysuckle bush and autumn olive, IMO….if not worse😳

I’ll take tree of heaven over kudzu any day of the week! 🤬
I believe there is only one spot in Ohio with kudzu and I know exactly where it's at. The property owner finally wants to do something about it too. I just don't know where to start. Her great great grandfather was told to plant it for his sheep...

Also an accountability post. First break I've had the past couple of months. I need to make it count. No excuses...caffinate and be productive.

Anyone else noticed the amount of hemlock growing along nearly every road this time of year?
Never noticed it till Jesse started a thread about it a year or two ago and now I see and notice it EVERYWHERE 😳

I think that is the best tool we can have, awareness. The landscape is changing. What are you going to do about it?

In the woods
Being we aren’t at our property enough, we hired some guys called “the woodland docs” to do some work on our place. They did some awesome tsi work for us over winter, but walking thru it before we cut they warned of the tree of heaven. They are going thru right now spraying stumps and any shoots that came up since they did the work
