Friend went to put out a trail camera and move a few others... Look what he bumped into...Took a pic and vacated the area...

J.... Yup that's a Jersey snake... We have a few areas that are infested with them... Area Dan and Jon have hunted have quite a few... Funny as old as I am and all the time I spend in the woods I have yet to see a rattlesnake or copperhead...
I kinda like it that way... When going through rocky areas I look before I place a hand or foot anywhere... That snake is maybe 5 miles from where Dan shot his bear as the crow flys...

That’s a HUGE Timber Rich! Beautiful snake and photo, IMO.
It could also be a Canebrake its distant cousin. Not sure they range that far north like the Timbers.

I’ll be into them this weekend in PA. The local den is 1/4 mile away from Camp. The PA Biologists estimated the den population is about 40,000. They migrate too and fro between Spring and Winter. I’m always on the lookout of where I place my next step.

Camp has been there since 1930. The snakes were their first. Only one dog has been lost in 95 years snake bitten.
