2025 EHD?

Ok ... First off I hear alot about this guy " Tonk".... Who the hell is he??? Does he work for the DNR ???
Ok from what I'm reading on here this could be the biggest outbreak of EHD to ever hit Ohio killing thousands and thousands of deer... Therefore come the end of the season this should reflect hugely on the total deer kill reported by the DNR...Who wants to bet they come up with a kill that's close to last year... WHAT ??? That's right cause they lie and pad the numbers... They could give a rats ass about you and the deer... ALL THEY CARE ABOUT IS THE MIGHTY DOLLAR... Maybe if sportsman banded together and said enough is enough and did not buy a license they would open up their eyes... But this is not going to happen... Hey look at the bright side... Less non-resident hunters this year as they will take their dollars elsewhere and maybe some outfitters will go belly up for lack of income...

Webinar? Like a seminar except it is online?

If so, that makes sense. They get up and talk. No Q&A. Gives a sense of caring. Save some face. Educate a few. And let's be honest: there isn't much they can do outside of lowering bag limits. A bit late for that to occur. Hard to lower a county limits if 1/4 of it is decimated and 3/4 of the county has a handful here and there. I've been hard on them in the past but I don't see many options for them on the EHD. Thanks for sharing the info.

I would think lowing doe limit to 1 in select counties would be a step in the right direction. (and wouldn't think it is too late to do so)

Doc Sims is a friend and neighbor. He told me earlier this week he saw his first case of EHD in 2000. He has been a practicing DVM since 1974. He said cattle that are affected by it enough to warrant a call to him are generally in poor health prior to EHD infection. It does not noticeably affect most of them. FWIW, he has treated most every animal that has gone through the Hillsboro stockyards for 50 years… that’s 100’s of thousands of animals. I don’t think hunters will benefit from an agricultural outcry over EHD.

I took the drone out to check on the local heard. With acorns dropping, bean fields starting to turn, and velvet starting to come off I didn't see many deer in the open fields or pastures like a did a few weeks ago. Haven't walked the properties yet but haven't smelled anything dead either in the past few days while calling coyotes. I will say the coyotes don't seem to be starving right now either. Only seen 1 that keeps coming out to the calls but he just comes out and lays down in the field and won't come into prey calls. Things are definitely a little off and I haven't put my finger on it yet. Maybe this weekend I'll put boots on the ground and check the creek/ wood edges and fly around a bit more.

Came up for a buddies retirement. While here went to the farm and checked things out. Hadn’t stepped foot there since spring time.
Deer rolled a mineral block down out of view of the camera. So went and relocated it and checked out some areas.
No death smell or carcasses found in or around the creek. Water moves at a decent rate so hopefully that helps some.
This is in Columbiana County.
