Thanks guys and yes I'm excited. Can't wait.
I think I'm going to try and get a good doe right when the season starts to get some meat in the freezer, which is the first priority. There is a doe coming in just about every evening right around the same time just before dark and that's what she's been doing almost every night for a month. I hope to shoot her on opening day in the evening and then I will back out of that spot for a week at least but will keep throwing the corn down. I will be more generous with the corn once we get into the season or closer to it. Right now I've been scattering around 25 pounds in maybe a 30' area every Saturday and there isn't one kernel left when I go back to freshen it up.
I'm going to try and keep the pressure off both of my spots so I'm going to just hunt a couple times a week and alternate the two spots, trying to slip in and out quietly. If I get that first doe in the freezer right away I will hold out for my big buck as long as possible after that but it's looking good for this year. The bigger ones haven't been coming out in the daytime but I'm hoping to get one either during the rut or in late season like when I finally got my chance last year.
After the buck is down I will just be trying to get a button buck or another doe for the freezer. I think the goals are pretty realistic this year and I've got all season to do it. Lots can change between now and February but right now that's the plan.
I am hoping of course that I can put the big one down from last year in my avatar picture but if I see one just as big or bigger, I'm taking the shot. Also considering getting my 7 year old daughter involved this year so that will be fun. Good luck to everyone and I hope we all have a great season whether we get us a big ole buck or not!
