Looks like every other Rage broadhead after it goes through a deer. Usually the end result is a dead deer, but it’s a one and done type of head. Most people don’t question their performance until after they bounce one off of a front shoulder.
Trying to avoid that part. Thinking I need something heavy and beefy enough to laugh at the shoulder.

Then use a piece of lead. No arrow should be used to “laugh” at a shoulder. Just shoot them in the ribs. The heavy part of the shoulder blade is a long way from where a person should point an arrow.

I suppose. I’ve shot a few deer, never have hit one in the hard part of the scapula. There is only an area that is smaller than a baseball that most any arrow will not penetrate. The really tough part will not be penetrated by any arrow. And that spot is not where the lungs are. IMO, the “shoulder “ shot is used nearly as often as the magical “twig” for an excuse. Don’t waste your time over thinking it, just don’t shoot into the tiny spot you can’t get through.

I believe both of those are just excuses for poor performance from our set ups. Not every time, but often.

So let me get a bit academic on you here...

If you're going to define "best", or, in other words, success, you need to have a measurement. Simplified, success = dead deer. But how much more dead can you make a dead deer? Especially with an ethical, clean shot was made. Now, if you were to apply the scientific process to this conversation, you'd have an infinite number of variables to consider, making this a nearly impossible hypothesis to test, let alone reaching a definitive measurement that says "this is best for any and all combination of variables". So what I am saying is you're obsessing over a near rhetorical question. Find an informed, reasonable, acceptable solution and spend more time on shot execution than experimenting with the hypothetical.

That is where the first video you shared with the Ranch Fairy comes into play. You can hit them perfectly but when that arrow doesn't continue on it's intended path is what counts. Dead is dead but sucks if it's days later and never found.
Agreed. I’m just not going to argue. I’ll do some tweaking once I get things figured out. This could be fun at Logan. 👍🏼

I’m sure you’re already aware but in the slim chance you missed it the ranch fairy was on the hunting public pod cast recently talking about arrow weight. I hate to fix what’s not broken but I might do some testing and tinkering for next season.

I attached it a few post back here. So if you’d like to rewatch/listen, it’s here.
