My youngest will be a senior this year and has expressed an interest in welding. He likes working cars and stuff but has never welded or been around welding. I told him I thought it was awesome and he would never want for a job. One of the local community colleges has a welding camp, so I signed him up, today was the first day. He made several things, not too shabby for never welding before.

Been welding since 1999….I started to get into welding because of lowrider bicycles that was at the car show That I went to. I went bought 1983 schwin bike then took it to welding class in junior year. My welding teacher taught me how to fabricate and weld whatever I wanted done to the bike. It turned out badass. Tell him good luck in future and he won’t regret it. If I can remember where the pic is I will post it on here.

Do you weld for a living? If so what do you do?

That flower and snowman are nuts! Props to him!

That is one thing I regret not learning from my dad. Still don't know how to weld and often thought of taking a class at the community college.
My uncle who lived beside us was a master fabricator and welder. He built a rail buggy that learned to drive a stick shift in when I was 12. I still have a heavy duty trailer he built, I regret so much that I didn't learn how to fabricate and weld from him. I enjoyed hanging out with him and watching.

Whatcha waiting on? Imagine having that card to play when ya move to SE Ohio. Imagine having that knowledge to fix things on the farm. Stop waiting Chuck, go do it!
No excuses, it's all about time right now. I'm juggling getting all the home projects done the next year and a half so we can move. That's the goal and we have a good start this summer. Besides if I learned how then I'd want to buy a welder! All my dad's stuff was sold to help out my step mom with things.

A kid getting into a trade right now is a good thing. Tell him to learn all he can from the angry old guys. Good help is hard to find in kids these days. Most only do it because of the paycheck. Few do it because they like it. I've got a good one on my crew right now. Good enough that I don't want to hold on to him and let him get burnt out. Trying to push him into the apprenticeship. The other one is great at drinking water...
