Mike and I plan to join forces at "Jew Nose" farms. Between fire power, water and food, we're sitting decent. Need to work on the meat scenario as mentioned in the beginning. My wife is slowly coming around to what she initially thought was crazy. Never hurts to be prepared.

Great excuse to get a smoker. We try and keep a few hundred pounds of salt on hand too.

After reading this, I now see that I have no chance. I'm certain that many of you don't either. Hollerman does a good job of smashing your plans, at least for the long term scenario.

I haven’t read any books on the subject in years. But some of them really break it down and make you think. We’ve scratched the surface a few time in person. I have with multiple members actually. This conversation is healthy to think about and a much better option than thinking about your annoying ass neighbors.

I think the opposite on this conversation. No need to post a map, but it’s good talk. That’s a great idea for the area you live, no way can you hold the fort, you gotta bug out.

I concentrate on planning for the symptoms of the event instead of the event itself.

Civil unrest is the largest one to plan for that will have the greatest impact on your individual family. Pretty much all roads no matter the incident eventually lead to civil unrest. These will largely be confined to major metropolitan areas. The problem is they will disrupt major businesses and logistics. For example it doesn't matter if you have a large rural kroger. If the workers can't get to their HQ office in downtown Cincy the business will not be able to operate efficiently. His include logistics. If the toads are blocked then distribution centers will have trouble stocking stores. The first to show signs of w shortage will be oerishable goods, both through purchase and limited shelf life. As the major metropolitan areas begin to overwhelm law enforcement both honest people and the less desirable will start to expand out. First the suburbs, then rural areas right outside of town. The government will set up resources inside of these areas because that is where they can serve the most people the quickest. If you are rural they will except you to come to them. Which most will not because no way in hell they're going to deal with that.

The biggest for everyone to plan for is the lack of perishable food. Milk, bread, vegetables etc. Things like powdered milk and flour have indefinate shelf lives if vacuum sealed and stored in a cool place without sunlight. Canned vegetables have a "best by" date of usually a couple years. Getting meat should not be a problem for any of us here.

The longer it goes on the harder it will be for any person to purposefully survive. Not saying that people won't as obviously people will. But it will be situational and while being prepared can give you a leg up early on it eventually become luck of the draw. The long term outlook is slim unless you are currently or can get to a very remote area like very rural KY or WV. Long term survival requires a whole other level of preparedness that is still just a hope.

Although I don’t subscribe to this, my thinking is different. You can’t hoard shit where you live. You have to sleep. Hoarding make losing your cache easy to get. You will need to be mobile and acquire others shit. You can’t carry enough ammo. You will basically have to form an “army” and do shift work. Basically like Indians, protect the home front and the others go collecting. It’s a total way of thinking than how we manage our security now and provide. When/if it happens I will hopefully get mine before I get got. Most of the people will be vulnerable in the first 6 months. You survive that your chances are much better. Stock piling shit where you “bunker” up will be easy pickings. These clowns with underground shelters will be the first ones to go. Your mindset should be like a coyote, later you change to a wolf pack.

Clean water will be in top demand. Can’t survive without good water for more than 3 days. Food you can survive about 21 days without.

How will those with a bunker be easy pickings? If you knew who has a bunker that’s one thing but not everyone knows who has or a bunker or where it’s located. It’s possible to maintain a main dwelling and still have a bunker for emergencies.

Ok we talking about crazy times right? If you fortify your shelter what keeps others from getting in? What keeps it from being burnt to the ground with someone in it?

I’ve been thinking about this a lot more since I posted, I’m going to need to figure a more reliable protein supply. Might be about time I get meat rabbits and a couple goats.

Wouldn’t jerky be a good substitute?

Made out of what? Grass? Because that’s what I have right now. Fish aren’t staying in the holes they used to, deer...psh...couldn’t buy a track. Didn’t even see much squirrel sign. New neighbors have really screwed up the program.
