Squirrel Opener

I went “squirrel hunting” this morning. Actually just a speed scouting excursion on a piece of public I’m gonna deer hunt this year. I did tote the 20 gauge so I gues I was technically hunting lol. It felt good to get back in the woods but, damn, I remember why I don’t go out this time of year 🥵

Yes the bugs are terrible. I had a wooly worm land on my neck on Saturday morning. Didn't know that they contained some type of toxin that some people are allergic to. Turns out that it caused my neck to swell all up. Still a little swollen, but no trip to the hospital was required. LOL.

Looking to get some squirrel hunting done, hopefully I'll bag one this year. Is a 12 gauge too much? Plan on using federal #6 shot.
I used a 20 and 12 gauge for most of my youth. If they're close it can really tear em up. Anymore I just take the .22 and try to head shoot em.

Cutting hickories will get ya found. Then shot. Off to a good start and I'm only 100 yards from the house. Saw this one headed back with a big 'ol hickory nut in his mouth, then he went to work up in a big shagbark. Slipped from 75 yards to 15 as quick as I could and let the 20 gauge bark.

Only 20 gauge ammo I have other than slugs, are these. Deadly. 😂

Second one was stripping red oak acorns, the other I had pinned down chewing on a hickory. I thought I could see him in the tree top, but couldn't confirm for a shot. I had one behind me I turned to shoot and when I did, the first one saw me and started baring. I'd been staring at it for 5 minutes and the barking confirmed it. Back to the house to clean 'em.

Cousin and I went out yesterday late afternoon and evening. Didnt kill a single squirrel. Would have thought for sure they would have been all over the acorns in the evening but we only seen 3. Could have got one of them, but he picked a tree my camera was on so I called my cousin off as he was about to pepper my camera. Even though the wind was blowing, was still a really nice comfortable day. Thank god I treated my clothes tho, I had chiggers all over my pants but they all died quickly

I know it's said every year about how much fat is on animals vs winter weather predictions. Anyone else notice a lot of fat ass animals this season? No wife pictures unless it's a nice shapely fat.
