Didnt see a forum to post this in... so figured this one is as good as any. Im sure there a plenty on here who are shroom hunters, the way this spring is shaping up..its going to b one of the best springs in a long time. Hopefully others on here will post pics of finds ill b posting once they start im my area, wich is central ohio. With this weekends temps figure about a week or so they should start around here good hunting TOO all who hunts

Man you done went and did it, got me thinking about roons. I can almost smell them now. It's been a couple years since we had a good crop here. About 6 or 7 years ago we had a bumper crop. I picked so many mushrooms I got sick of them. I'm talking about filling multiple Kroger bags full every time we stepped in the woods that spring.
Youll find them this year Mike with little effort if it keeps up the way its going, slow steady rise in soil temps and plenty of moisture, flooding in the winter time, every year it gets just about prime .. then snows about now or frezzes, or plain gets Too hot and dry. Like Jackalope said its shaping up TOO be a bumper year. I havnt seen a spring with this good of conditions in a very long time and ive hunted them for over 35 years. April16 is usualy yhe start time for me till about mid may, if its as good as i think and hope mite make trip to Michigan after there done around here. Michigan is morel capital of us.Good hunting,cant wait TOO be seeing pics and be posting pics.

I’ll be out there the second week of May to turkey hunt and do some work on my property. I’ll keep my eyes peeled for them and will have to post pics to ask if they are actually morels, as Ive never hunted them before. I’ll probably need cooking tips also if I find any.

Realy dont taste like ant other mushroom. One of the easiest,and best wayz is just wash them with water or soak in salt water for few cut in half length wise and saute in a litle butter and garlic powder if u like it. Some people batter or stuff them, any way there delicious but easiest is saute.Even if you dont like them, there are sites where people are always wanting to buy them. Ive seen them go for 30 to 60$ a pound. Hunting them is half the fun, and when u find one, more often than not theres more than one around. Cant mistake them, look like a sponge on top.Theres black, grey ,tan, yellow and gold. The last ones to come up are the golds and they can get enormous, seen a couple golds up to a pound and half apiece. Size of beer cans. Theres one mushroom thats a false morel, looks a lityle similar but realy quite different. Post pics if your unsure, sure some one on here will help u out, but there pretty unmistakable.

Here’s a few that my neighbor found on his property in Vinton county a couple of years ago. If he’s got them on his, there’s got to be some on mine. I’m going to give it a try after turkey hunting for the day is done.

Where do they grow, like where to look for them? Under trees, by wet areas? I’m headed to Kansas on the 17th.
People have all kinds of things they believe. I honestly believe they grow all over, you just gotta slow down to see them. I’ve found them in the middle of yards, next to dying trees, wet areas, dry areas, on moss. One thing I know is, once you see one, you see more. There’s multiple threads on here about them, use the search.
Ya you never know where theyll pop ip at found them in my yard, in the woods they can be anywhere but dead elm trees that have lost thier bark are usually good to look. Ash trees are good especialy since lots have died off from emarald ash borrower beetles. Found them around cherry trees. Little streams in woods usually the first hill above them usually very good to look.But like Giles said they can be anywhere. once u find one look all around you and more often than not youll see them all around. Vinton cnty and counties south of central or northern they pop first..Also look to south or southeast facing hills . But my best spots and wbat i look for most is dead elm trees.

Once you find a spot that has a few, will that area always produce...or is there no pattern to where they come up every year?
Dead elms with bark falling off will generally produce year after year for many years. But it's not 100%
