My October story was about getting my new blind ready for the upcoming season. My November story was about getting my buddies camp ready. This months story is about the maintainance I had to do on my hunting property.
I’m always doing small stuff to make it better...like adding a fishing dock on the pond and putting small stone where I park my truck to help with the mud. This project cost me a bit more coin but it is something that had to be done.
A couple of years ago I had a guy come in with a dozer and put in a road so I could get my quad from where I park my truck to the rear of my hunting grounds safely. The hillside was too steep to navigate, especially hauling bait in or a deer out. That road took a beating with all of the rain we had this year. I gave the same guy a call and he met me out there. I showed him what was going on and we came up with a game plan.
He dug a ditch across the road and placed a culvert, covered it with stone then finally with dirt. He placed smaller stone where the road was low and gathered a lot of water. We placed stone where the water eroded along the road to divert it into the plastic pipe he had placed. Finally, at a low spot where the road had eroded to a ten foot drop off, he placed large stone to fill in the eroded spot. Hopefully the road will last for a few more years before it needs any more maintainance. Here are a few picks of what it looks like now....
