I visited the Pennsylvania Lumber Museum in Potter county last week right after my visit to the ice mine. I spent a few hours here….lots of history to see. They had a lot of old equipment and even had sawmills, lumber camps and all of the other buildings that were used back in the day to get the lumber from the mountains to the mill. I took plenty of pics and can only post ten at a time, so I’ll go ahead and post more. They even had a display for the native Americans with old arrowheads etc. They also had a old cabin that a husband/wife lived at for over 50 years while they were paid to help put in hiking trails throughout the mountains where they lived. It was off grid with no running water or electricity. I had just missed the demonstration they had the weekend before I got there…they actually ran the saw mill and had a log rolling contest. I did see the log they used that still had some stuff put on the ends for traction. I bought a couple of bird houses they made there for $6 apiece. They also had wood duck boxes for $10, but I don’t have anywhere to put it on my land…I’m sure the lumber used to make it costs more than what they were asking.
