Looks like I’ve passed my allowed time to edit. This is not a joke, it actually happened. The grill also didn’t shit off, it shut off/flameout. Hopefully this serves as a lesson for all of us.

Wow. That's crazy. I wonder if it's a backdraft type issue. I had a "high efficiency" woodstove that if I didn't get it hot enough before locking it down it would eventually draw air down the chimney. When it did, and the fresh air hit the coals inside, it would blow open the top steel lid similar to how yours blew. When I talked to the stove guy he said that the fire would starve for air and the coals would smolder and fill the stove full of combustible gas. Then when the stove gulped air down the cooled down chimney it would hit the right combustible to oxygen mixture and explode.
That would make the most sense of anything. No damage but it was pretty violent. My first thought was a TV fell off a wall upstairs, then I heard the lid slam close.
Pretty much. Seems like a very small percentage of this happening between all the makers. So it must be a stars aligned kind of thing. I wasn’t worried one bit to fire it back up.
So, what exactly is there to learn from this? Do you know for sure what even happened? And what would/could you have done differently that would have prevented it?
Yes, it was started and didn’t light or went out. Auger kept feeding pellets. She restarted it and a few minutes later she blew.
Lesson 1: if you want something done right, do it yourself
Lesson 2: always check the pellet chamber before starting
Lesson 3: don’t give your wife shit whiles she has a knife
Lesson 4: snitches get stitches
Lesson 5: lesson 2 is the only one that’s serious, so always remember lesson 2
Most of all, we need to share this information. That chamber needs to empty when you start these up. Dumb luck that no one or nothing got damaged. With the popularity of these growing, the potential of this needs to be known. I’m trying to make light of the situation so people keep talking about it. Is no laughing matter that one of my kids or wife could’ve been standing right next to it when it happened. And likely would’ve if it had happened any of the other days it was going.
