New spot with lots of hunters

So I scored a new local spot and it possibly has more people then a public spot. Potential in the area is damn high and from what I can tell, the deer numbers are better then average.

Property is mostly ag with a couple of shallow valleys, surrounded by a cattle farmer and CRP. Small woods (15 acres?) was logged last year. Land owner doesn’t have any contact info for the main hunters, but thinks they all stick to one side of the road. (Thinking about leaving a note in a ziplock with my contact info in their stands and blinds) This leaves me with the small woods. I did see a stand in there but it looks to be in a stupid spot...tomorrow I plan to go deploy a couple of cams, I honestly expect them both to get stolen before I get any pics. Buts that’s how it is.

Anyways, this is where I want so knowledge from some of you.

Here it is, the woods is on the west side of the road. CRP to the west of it. Two valleys come out of it. Trails all over it...what to do? Not even sure where to put the cams honestly. Let alone stands.

I also plan to go have lunch with the local guru tomorrow on my way out.

Spill some knowledge fellas! Teach me something.

What would you do?

Lock some cams to some trees on good trails. See what ya get, move em as needed till ya find what you're after. Looks like there is a nice ridge there, I like ridges.

Id hunt the pinch point where the woods and the hedgerow come together, can't hunt that small woods to deep youll push it, if anything comes from the hedgerow youll good with a a west wind, i can't imagine with all the activity (hunters)there are many deer that bed in that small woods any way, so you could probably hunt the woods a little deeper. But I would stick to that pinch point with a west wind during the pre rut for a traveling big boy

This hillbilly doesn't have much advice for flat ag country. I'd have to walk it and look for sign. My initial thought is walk the edges of the timber looking for the best trials exiting it on the E & W, then look for a tree with good access/cover to try and connect the dots between some of the trails on either side. That southern swale should have some good traffic moving E-W through those brush rows/ditches.

I just showed the pic to Andy. He said its full of guys from Dayton during bow season but no one is there during shotgun. That might be the time to be there. He also said when he's cutting silage the guys from Dayton show up to shoot doves. He will be late this year with that, he said two or three weeks after the dove opener.

Those guys...never seen them during harvest either. Always kick a good buck out of that corn.

Nothing wrong with hunting public.

Aside from hitting the obvious spots and throwing up a couple cams for inventory, I'd say wait until after gun season to really put some effort into it. The other guys will likely vanish and you'll have a much better grasp of travel patterns in the area. Right now is a shitty time to look for sign. For one, trails aren't near as prominent, and two, most deer aren't doing right now what they'll be doing in a couple months.
