Was thinking about this when driving home. Im sitting here talking about myself, but I'm the best/most prepared out of my wife and 3 boys. We are screwed since she is 25 miles the other direction from our home, 2 boys are 8 miles from home and south of her, and 1 is even further the other direction from her. I would get home and be all by myself.......this sucks.
Most are. This is why talking and thinking about is a good thing. Make a plan, talk to her. Maybe meeting somewhere else would be best. Or a plan on how many days you wait before going to find the other.

And those are the kind of comments that kill these threads. No one wants to talk about stashes or plans in fear of letting people know what they have. Shame that people have a first plan of killing someone to protect theirs. Meanwhile we have a group of people trying to prepare to protect theirs while leaving other alone. That are now scared to talk/share/learn.

I find it comical. This isn't happening. Prep all you want. At the end of times you aren't changing anything. God says to go about your business. Do not add to the chaos. He also says not to murder. Therefore, my comment was purely of jest. It would be self defense if I were to take a life. Carry on with your conversation. I'll be on my way. As per usual. It's your show Dave. Have fun.

I hate to say it but people without a moral compass or compassion will be a major problem. You may see someone in trouble and offer help, while the person acting like they need help will kill you for what you have. When the shit REALLY hits the fan, you will witness just how evil a person can be to ensure their own survival. Only way to survive in the long run is to get somewhere remote (Canada for example) and team up with like minded people that you trust with your own life..live off of the land via hunting and fishing, while avoiding all contact with outsiders. Most of us on this site are way more prepared than the average person, but still lack a lot of the skills to truly survive on your own. You’ll need people with a variety of skills to survive together.

While I don't disagree that a portion of the population will turn feral quickly during a SHTF moment I wasn't taking them into account for my reply to this thread. My plan is to be prepared well enough to get home and get to my family BEFORE people turn nasty.

Lets look at things that have happened here in Ohio. For example about 10 years ago the high wind event that put a large portion of Ohio out of electricity. If that happened at the wrong time aka winter think of the road hazards that'd exist along with no power.... Which of us wouldn't want to be home to help out with that. If it lasts more than a few days grocery stores and other shopping options will be cleaned out, at which point people may turn feral.

I have options as to what I grab from my car. At that point I'm hiking as close to military pace (4mph) as I can manage. I hope that while my pace will set me apart from others attempting the same thing that my camelback and other non military esque gear makes me look like an average joe and not as prepared as I am.

My BOB is more of a get home back set up. Once I"m home I reevaluate what needs done and get ready for the next phase of survival.

Place your faith in God. My personal belief is God could give two shits how horrible a death you suffer. This is evident by the innocent toddlers that are murdered on a daily basis by shitty people, or the two-year-old that died right down the road from me on Thanksgiving day in an accident. An Invisible sky deity isn't going to deliver our mortal ass from shit, that's on us.

You might think it isn't going to happen, but the reality is this HAS happened. There are TONS of stories about just this very kind of thing after Katrina, Sandy, Panama City, LA Riots, Tornados, Baltimore riots. Etc. FEMA, our very own government, has an entire website telling people to get their shit together and be prepared. It's aptly named www.Ready.Gov.

It’s good to have extra batteries, ammo, lots of canned and dry food, water, generator etc but that’s about as far as I’ve ever gone. I have too much actual shit going on to prepare for something that imo is pretty unlikely, like having to hike miles through a zombie apocalypse to get back to my house. Doesn’t hurt to be ready for anything though so not knocking anyone that has a “bug out bag”- I just don’t personally see the need for myself. Emergency blankets and flares I could see, first aid kit, things like that. Cool topic though.

Anyone who knows you Phil knows yer playing around. Actually, I believe just the opposite and that you would be one of the first to help somebody else.
Rule #1 Don't let stupid shit ruffle your feathers.
Rule #2 It's all stupid shit.

Appreciate it Rick. Remember: For every person you help, while you might think you are just doing something nice. . . To them it may be an answer to their prayers. (I'm paraphrasing something I read, but you get the idea.)

Good rules as well.

Joe/Jesse- some things cannot be explained. You just know what to do in those moments. Some call it instinct, good decision making in high stress incidents, going with their gut, or whatever. Others call it divine inspiration or I've heard it called a "God wink." I'm just going to keep doing what I'm doing. You have seen me in some of my finer moments and in some I wish I could take back )Chad's truck tire and a little too much Crown at Mingo lol). I'm far from perfect. I'm no saint. All i can do is try to be a little bit of a better person every day. Some days I'll be better, and others I might slip backward. I think I will be taken care of either way. Good or bad. Dead or alive. If forced into one of these SHTF moments. . . I'll take my chances with my decisions.

Well brother, throw a Bible in the truck and pray for the best. Some of us also prefer physical preparedness. I can tell you right now though, if the SHTF and I had to get home to my family the damn Pope could be getting mugged on the sidewalk and my foot ain't leaving the gas pedal.

As for Mingo you don't owe anyone an excuse, damn sure not me. I don't trust a man that doesn't drink, and that's a rule that has served me well in life.

I find it pretty wild that the most civilized societies are the ones that turn the most barbaric when times are tough and it happens extremely quick. Yet the societies that are out in the wild and have very little structure are the ones that keep chugging along like nothing ever even happened. Cause their day to day doesnt change, they're still surviving just like they were the day before.

Naw, if the shit hits the fan the internet will be down and would take too much to figure out that person's screen name, real name, home address, work address, type of vehicle, color of back pack, etc.. LOL! I can honestly say I do not have a dedicated bag for situations like this but it definitely keeps me thinking I oughta. I have often thought if things were to go to shit I would make the attempt to get to the farm there in Ohio. Probably not the brightest idea traveling through Detroit, Columbus, etc. but that is also where the map book comes into play. Might take me a few days of juking and jiving but I think that would be best for the family's long term survival. If we chose not to our home has had decent preparations of stored items to keep us going for some time.

A few thoughts after getting caught up here...

To each his own, but I'm not leaving the physical safety of myself and my family up to someone I've never met.

No room in the vehicle? Nonsense. Get creative. Even if nothing is in the pack, but the pack is discretely stored in the vehicle, it's a readymade BOB. 😎

No time? Cute. It's not time, it's priorities. I'll throw down for the busiest TOOzer award, but being prepared has always been a priority for me (ask anyone that's shared a camp with me). You can assemble a pack worthy of a day's survival in an hour and for less than $100. There's more than enough hours and minutes to do that, you just have to prioritize it and it's perfectly acceptable to not do it, too. Just don't come whining to me when ya get caught with your pants down. 😳

This is a continuation of a lifelong fascination with packs and putting things in them. I assembled my first day pack at the ripe old age of 6. Water, snack, folding shovel, swiss army knife, machete, and rope. I spent most of my childhood preparing for adventure and that correlates to the original post. Adventure, good or bad, is determined by your preparedness and I've always had a thing for being over prepared.

I carry the pack below for work. It's prepped for a SHTF moment, but also stores my "professional" emergency kit so I can deliver my craft from anywhere at anytime. I spent good money on it after our wedding since it was my primary carry-on for our honeymoon. It's 11 years old and going strong. Lots of great pockets and holds way more than you'd think. Very unassuming and what will make me your best friend if we're ever stuck in a shitty situation on the job. 👍

The pack from my original post originated when I became a dad. I needed a dad pack and I also had an increased sense of awareness that prompted a BOB style pack. It's my murse and I'm in it almost daily for something and if I need to hop in your truck for an adventure, I grab and we're good for a couple days if shit gets wild. 🤘

I would say the Walking Dead show. Is just about how things would be. Great way to have different scenarios for different things.

Cut off access to roads etc. Don’t have 20 cars in your driveway. Get the fugg out of the city ASAP. Staying there is certain death. Less populated less bullets used ,longer life. Less stress. Etc. Sooner or later you gotta sleep.

Safe room for kids, wife, Code word for that door to be open. “Friendly code word,Or blow holes as soon as the door is open”

I’d say the first three days things would be somewhat chaotic. I think people could get to where they need to go. Majority of people would be looting pharmacies and stores. After a week or so then I would venture to say shit starts getting real in the inner cities. From there it spreads out.

Me I’m just heading to the nearest FEMA camp with a couple cases of Beer and A Xbox and iPad. I don’t plan on sharing all my beer when I get there.Fuggers better have their own 😂

One other thing for the life of me. Why they never had poisonous food in the walking dead show I’ll never know. That coulda stopped a lot of shit. Of course I still haven’t watched it all so. If they did they sure as hell waited to long.

I realized yesterday that one thing missing from my bag was disposable antiviral face masks. At first I thought about it due to the Coronavirus and thought it might be a tad over reacting. But then I realized that a pandemic is far more likely than the majority of other situations. And there are other uses such as protection from smoke, dust, and the ability to evade facial recognition. A surgical mask draws far less suspicion than a bavlaca or bandana. A box of 50 was 12 bucks and 10 of them weigh hardly anything.

Wow. Good one.
