Where to even start this story, lol.

Micheal and I got a little excited last night and smashed a BUNCH of beers. Had plans to get up and make the drive to Athens for Levi's first real hunt. My drunken ass messed up and set my alarm for sunday. I felt like a complete loser and total let down. Went in and woke him up, told him about my mistake and asked him if he wanted to go hunt the sanctuary with us. He said he would rather sleep if he couldn't shoot. I understood and rolled out with a mission.

All week I told myself I was going to burn my buck tag so I could forget about the big boys I've seen and dedicate the last month to these kids. After this morning I was honestly thinking about just tagging out with does. I was pissed at myself in every way. About 2 minutes before legal shooting time I spotted 3 does. All 3 starring back and I figured out why. BUCK and he was a nice one. We could see him clear as day in the binos, but I couldn't get on him with the scope. Low light and he was pushing them into the thicket. No shots fired.

There was a spot Michael had never been to so we took the truck and went around to the other spot. Walking in I was kinda laughing and joking around about how cool this was about to get. Get to the spot I wanted to stand and BOOM! We spot a nice doe. Then another and another another. This went on for at least an hour. All does, never seen any bone. It is now 9:42 and we hadn't seen a deer in a few minutes. I told Michael 18 more minutes and we head to Athens. About that time he spots a deer and says "buck buck buck". He was 400+ yards out and as soon as I seen him I told him I was gonna shoot that deer. He tried like hell to talk me out of it. That buck came right to us. Ran a few does around on the way, but basically came on a string. Does were blowing at him and making all kinds of noise.

Michael was watching in the binos and I was watching in the scope mounted to the 350. We spot the shit out of this gun yesterday. I felt extremely confident with it. This buck held up at 65 yards looking right at us. All we could see was his throat patch up. I told Michael, I've always wanted to shoot one in the face. Chuckled and the safety came off. BOOM!

Scared the fuck out of Michael because he didn't expect it at all. I was locked in and all in. When the gun went off, the deer flat disappeared. I knew I folded him like a breifcase.

We seen 37 deer this morning and this buck happened to be the only one in close. He paid the price. We had a blast. Possible one of my most action packed hunts ever. These 350s are stupid accurate. This deer was dead before he landed. Neck is shattered and it flipped him backwards. I couldn't be happier to have him. Freezer is basically full but I needed to burn my tag and this was perfect. My face hurts from smiling today.

We got skunked in Athens. Didnt even see a bird or squirrel.

70 yard drag to the truck, lol. All around perfect. What a great hunt. If you could measure these things on pure enjoyment, cabelas would be buying.

Congrats again Dave! Sounds like fun was had by all...except maybe Michael...did he have to change his shorts?😂
He smells like shit anyways and is always scratching his ass, so it was nothing new. 🤣

Man was this ever fun. Who knew shooting little bucks could be so fun! I planned to shoot this deer long before I got a good look at him, but he doesn't have any brow tines or anything. He needed to go anyways. All around shit deer. But I didn't kill him because of that, I did it because I wanted to!

Great writeup Dave. It’s pretty cool that you and Michael are able to hunt together like you guys do, it’s what really makes it fun and enjoyable regardless if anything hits the ground. That’s how great memories are made and the kills are just the frosting.👍🏻

Congratulations to you both.👍🏻👍🏻
