How many of you have your 'Hunter Education Certificate of Qualification' handy?

I'm getting ready to apply for an out of state big game hunting license for Colorado and they require your certificate number that proves you have successfully completed Hunter Education.

I couldn't find mine and after researching online on what to do, I found the following statement;

"Certificates dated earlier than 1980 cannot be found or replaced. If you need a certificate and yours cannot be found, you will need to retake the course."

I wasn't exactly sure when I took my course, but I believed it was at the time I reached of legal age to hunt small game on my own in the state of NY.

So, I called the phone number provided from the Google search and the person that answered helped me over the phone. After providing her with some basic information, she said that I just made into their NY database by one month. She laughed, I laughed and then she told me she'd mail the duplicate certificate out right away and I should receive it in the mail within a few business days. That conversation occurred last Thursday afternoon.

Well, I received it today in the mail, which made me just as excited as the day I successfully completed the course back in 1980 I think :LOL:

So, does everybody here have their certificate handy, cause you'll need it if you ever wish to obtain an out of state hunting license for many of the US states.

Thought I'd pass that along because it was a minor stumbling block for me in the application process.

I'm sure before too long there will be no attestation option for the courses even in Ohio. I put my card in my safe with all my other important documents. When I was younger it was always in my wallet so its split and beat up, luck to even have it and not lost it. I wonder how far Ohio goes back and if they give duplicates.

It on your license . Well the info that your certified is ,no number .

Correct, there's no hunting education certificate number on your Ohio hunting license.

You'll need that hunter education certificate number though for some out of state hunting applications. That was specifically stated in the Colorado hunting license application and it was clear that they DO NOT deviate from that requirement to obtain a hunting license in their state.

Crazy. I’ve hunted 7-8 different states and never have been asked to prove it. I’ll have to have them send me one. Planning on doing some Florida hunting next year.

Don't wait or you might have to take the course again if they don't have it on file. Good luck in your Florida hunt!

I took mine in Mississippi some 25 odd years ago. Went to their site to see if I could do a lookup for reprint and "individual not found please call". The odds of that old paper test copy making it to the capital, then decades later into the computer system is slim to none. 😅

You know, that's exactly what I thought 'TOO' and to my amazement, they had it.

I grew up in a very rural area of upper NY and I believe I took the course at a local firehouse in one of the nearest small towns at the time. I was very surprised that they had it in a database.

I don’t have mine. I’ve hunted in several other states that have asked for the number, and I just enter a date (the approximate date I passed the course) and have not had one single hang up. This is not that big of a deal.
