From what I’m reading, that purple doesn’t mean a thing. Maybe it’s some mineral I have here at the house that makes them turn color and much larger than average.

I’m glad we could help you identify some!

Well I can attest to how well jewell weed works on poison ivy. We were down over the weekend and I was knee deep in poison ivy working on the one shack. Sure enough by Sunday I had several itchy spots all over both forearms so I grabbed a couple handfuls of jewell weed, crushed it up and rubbed it like crazy over the areas. Today I only have a couple spots in places I didn't rub it over and they are minor so far. The other spots either you cannot even tell they were bumps or in some spots they are healed over already. I'll be damned....:ROFLMAO:

Lol, you can find it close to home too! I promise it’s close by. Now that you know it works, prep some like I explained here and you’ll have it to try on all kinds of different things.

I was pulling some stands this weekend. The last one had been up two rears and had about a dozen leafed out poison oak vines around it. I was up in the tree on a linesman rope pulling it off barehanded. On the way out i grabbed a bunch of jewel weed. I took it in the shower with me and after washing up i balled it up and rubbed it all over my arms, face, and chest like a washcloth. The juice that tan out was like a dark orange. I've never been very allergic to poison ivy or oak but i do get a tiny spot or two each year. My concern was that i was sweeting like a pig and wiping my face with my shirt that had been covered in vines and leaves. Three days later and i don't have a single spot.

Years ago I showed my daughters the spring loaded seed pods.
They would collect em and then
Play/pop em on the porch.
Now they come up in my landscaping every year... 🙄

We have been using this for years. My wife collects jewelweed and makes salve so we have it all year long, and she also makes soap with it. The salve is also good to put on prior to going out if you think you could be exposed to poison ivy, it is supposed to prevent you from getting it. Make sure if you are collecting it to get the one with red blossoms, the jewelweed with yellow blossoms are not supposed to be nearly as potent as the red blossom plant.

Jewelweed salve
Chopped jewelweed - stems, leaves and flowers - 1 to 2 cups
3.5 oz olive oil
2.6 oz coconut oil
2.6 oz shea butter
.8 oz cocoa butter
1 oz beeswax

Put the jewelweed into the olive oil - and steep it for 12 to 24 hours. A crockpot on low works great.
Strain all plant material out of the olive oil.
Combine coconut oil, shea butter, cocoa butter and beeswax in a double boiler and melt over low heat.
Once combined, let cool a few minutes and then add the jewelweed infused olive oil.

This recipe will make two or three small jars.

Here is another option if you know you were in poison ivy. As soon as you can get in the shower and use Dawn Dish Soap, scrub the areas aggressively, dry off and don't use the wash cloth or towel until you wash them. The Dawn Dish soap cuts the oils from the poison ivy. It works, I have used it when I did not have silver weed.

I believe the key to using this method is more so in the drying part rather than the soap. Getting the oil off requires a "hard dry". Drying off aggressively with a towel and then catching said towel on fire. I'd also recommend showering in cold water instead of hot water as to not open skin pores. If you get into to ivy or oak heavily, I wouldn't put the towel in the wash. Might just be me, but I get that shit by looking at it.
