Damn lug nut

I have a lug nut that was just off about a month ago, my son went to remove the wheel yesterday and a lug nut stripped off.

to give some background I damaged the car by hitting an island and was removing the wheel to see if the frame was damaged. I have never had this issue with a car ever.

I got a nut extractor set and one for lug nuts, all I have managed to do it grind off part of the nut.

I have gone down 2 sizes in extractors.

I have put penetrating oil on it.

I have put heat on it.

I am trying to not mess up the wheel up anymore than I have to.

I think a small chisel maybe the next tool.

Or a couple gallons of diesel.

Ewww. Chunky. Stick a big 1/2 drive socket up to it and a stick welder through the socket hole. Tack a few spots from the inside around the edges.

If you don't have a stick welder, a chisel is about your only way. Seems like a good opportunity to buy an air chisel and come down one side of that nut with the flat bit to split the nut. Then put on the pointed bit and try to drive that stud out. Or use a BFH and drive it out. Either way you've got your work cut out for you.

I once used some cool looking black lug nuts. They were pretty long. Went to rotate tires and almost half of them snapped off. On an 8 lug truck! Spent 3 days drilling the lugs out like I explained. We tried multiple things but the drilling ended up being the best way to spend the time.

May be worth trying to heat the wheel a little bit. Cooling the bolt would work also but a lug nut is pretty small to do that. Just a thought. Good luck
