Around the world this fish is caught for table food. Yet here in the states we consider it a trash fish. Every spring I get a good run of carp here at the house, nice 8 lb sized fish. Got me thinking I want to try some. Anyone ever try it?

I’ve heard the same about white bass and I love white bass if kept alive or on ice. I plan to use the same approach with the carp. Either keep it alive until time to prep for cooking or quickly kill it and ice it. I also plan to gill bleed it out like a salmon.

I know it isn’t going to be yellow perch or walleye, but how bad is bad? I’m willing to give it a try!

This guy rates the tasty A+...talks about how different parts of the meat taste different. Knowing that, it could help in the filet process. Christine has a coconut blend that makes salmon taste like candy!

I don’t think I’ve ever talked to someone that’s actually tried it and didn’t like it. I’ve heard of the smoked thing and that’s how most people prefer salmon. The guy in that video refers to some of the parts tasting like salmon.

Never tried it but heard it was good. Throw away the belly meat and bloodline simply keeping the white meat. Allow the oils to soak out and you should be good to go. I’d try some if you made it. Many guys smoke them.

My struggle is taking my kids bank fishing and actually bring home a meal. Kinda like hunting, I’m not very good at the release part of fishing. My saying is “filet and release”

Nothing in my area...damn Amish rape the water. Gotta have a boat to get off the banks. There’s a few good spots left for crappie. Kinda looking for something that the kids can get some line rip going. The smile a kid gets when the drag is singing is epic! Being that the fish fish any of them caught was Alaskan river salmon...this pan fish thing doesn’t do much for them.

That’s a shame as fishing should be great anywhere water is available. I guess I’m lucky as fish around here....there is no shortage or limited options for catching different types of fish.

Sounds like a road trip bitch or a swap hunt/fish. I can have you begging for someone to catch the fish your hooked to cause your arms are tired

Dave, they are bony as hell. That being said, we have kept some from the clean waters of the reservoirs and smoked them. Tasted like a good ham. Agree on white bass, they are good if keptvslive or on ice til cleaned. They are the best tasting, fresh water, smoked fish on the planet

It’s all food man! The more I can get from the land and help keep a better balance, the better we all will be. Look at what they sell at stores now...chicken that they grow in weeks now that’s full of who knows what. Doesn’t even have any taste anymore. We have a thread dedicated to vitamins...to help us feel better. I feel like eating right is the first step in feeling better. Hell, I can’t even drink a soda pop anymore without feeling like shit. The toxins we put in our body’s that comes from stores is insane. I know I’m one of the worst for this and that’s why I don’t comment much on the subjects.

So if I want to make a surf and turf meal on deer balls and carp, I bet it’s a lot better for me then that super sized fast food or frozen pizza. I’ll take my bud light and leave the Diet Coke. I might not live to be 100, but I sure don’t want to miss anything or worry on the limited days I do have. Cheers!

I’m just messing w you Dave. How old is the kids? Isn’t it pretty cold up there? What about a squirrel or rabbit hunt with the kids. Fish when it’s warmer, no catfish where you fish?

A few weeks back on a weekend at PA camp I had my first pan fried deer kidneys. They taste like mushrooms for those that haven’t tried them yet. I might keep my next set for an appitizer.

Actually planning a squirrel hunt today. Seems all my kids have run separate ways to play in the snow with friends. Might be flying solo. They gotta move first, haven’t seen one yet today! Which is very uncommon for my house.
