Baseball is over, at last, at least until fall ball starts. So, we are starting to think about deer! I put out a cam just yesterday, but we have made a couple of short scouting trips to watch bean fields. The other day we saw what Mason believed to be "Tines". I did not see the antlers, Mason caught just a glimpse, but was awful excited about it. I have no idea if it was him, or if he is even still alive. Hopefully, he is and the deer Mason saw was him!

I've looked over some of our apple picking spots, and we will be gathering them up as soon as they start dropping. I'm no longer afraid to "cheat" over a pile of apples! :)

Hopefully, this season will not be another four solid months of hunting with little shooting. It sure would be nice to fill our tags early for a change!

Good luck everyone!

Great to hear from you guys!!! Looking forward to following along!

It isn't cheating if it's legal Brock! Hell, it's come down to either you start running a pile or get left behind these days! I'm simply in a position where it goes on all around me and I share a small farm with 4-5 different hunters and don't want to go through all the trouble just to have them move in on me or start hunting my stands! They've moved close to my stands without the piles for cripe sakes! Lol

This is and will always be one of my favorite threads to follow! Good luck to you and Mason this year buddy!

Thanks for the well wishes, fellas! It's been a busy summer, way busy. I'm glad to start thinking about deer again. This past weekend was the first weekend free of baseball I've had since late February. We've squeezed in a bunch of work on our home this spring and summer too. Heck, I haven't even had time to fish nearly as much as normal. It's just life, and as you all know, sometimes it's a little nutty. Yesterday afternoon Mason and his buddy started in about getting cams out. He said we were running late, etc. I didn't think I was too far behind last year, but after going through and checking vids from last year, I saw I was wrong! Heck, we had clips of a big 6x6 and that wide 10 on the 24th of July...and yesterday was the 25th! One cam out, that should be enough for now. :)

Burn out got a grip on me after the last couple seasons chasing those deer. I've told Mason the first 140" that walks by is getting shot. I'm sure that will change if we find Ol Tines again... I'll be interested to see who made it from last season. I've got quite an inventory from the last couple years that I'm looking forward to seeing again.

I'll be in your neck of the woods tomorrow. Maybe I'll find one of the "leftovers" munching in a bean field on my trip!

Where are you going to be?

Mike- don't sweat it, buddy! I can promise you, I will not be needing the gambrel on Sept. 1. I will likely be out shooting doves, but I'm not going in the woods after squirrels until after things cool off at least a little! :)

I am amazed how this stuff works. I swear, I have not given a moments thought about these deer all summer. I have put in zero effort until just a couple of days ago. The landowner just stopped in the pizza shop to chat, and I have only seen him a time or two since early spring. He wanted to tell me that the landowner that borders him to the south called yesterday to tell him to be on the lookout for poachers. He said he had seen two bucks that would make an honest man poach. :) Haha. No kidding. He has apparently seen them in one of his bean fields a couple of times recently. I sincerely hope one of them is TINES! Its funny to me how this stuff starts as soon as I start thinking about them again...
