Black Diamond headlamps

I bought one a few years ago now. Different model but same brand. I was tired of the cheapo ones breaking on me, especially when they got wet. I have absolutely loved the one I have...very reliable. I use it for hunting and early morning runninf, so year round and in all conditions...has worked flawlessly.

I'm not going to try and push you away from the Black Diamond as I know nothing about them. You also know I'm a huge fan of StreamLight's. That being said, I'm going to take a second to explain what I've found/learned about lumens.

Most inexpensive lights will claim said amount of lumens. Let's use 100 for example. They claim to have a 100 lumen light that is 5 LEDs...that's 5, 20 lumen LEDs...not 100 lumens. A single LED light claiming 100 lumens will way out perform that other light.

Also they make different kinds of LED lights...some designed to be more of a flood style output and others for beam style. Hard to compare output between the two in a lumen battle.

x2 on what Giles said. Marketing ploys. They are not always the same output as they "appear" to be.

I'm going to go with the black diamond. Good reviews and I like the features it has. I'm just tired of buying $15 headlamps every year.

For whatever it's worth, I looked up my receipt. Mine was the storm. Features I like are the variable brightness (from same bulb)...I use that more than I thought I would. Love true waterproofing especially for waterfowling...and I use blinking red too. The thing made it through a bad bike accident (I got hit by a truck!). It also sits close to head (doesn't stick out), which is nice for running. From date of purchase I'd probably be on third lowes checkout line lamp...so it's paid for itself now.

Good to know. The storm I'll be buying is the newer version. I think yours is 160, this one says 200 lumens.

Or white. Is there some thinking that deers do not get as spooked by red or green light?

They're red green color blind. But mostly it's because neither of those colors ruin your night vision. A white light will make you night blind until your eyes can readjust to the darkness. Plus red and green cannot be seen from the same distance as white.
