Big Ohio Buck...

I take nothing away from the awesomeness of the buck.

There's no mention of any equipment used to kill this buck....bow brand, broadhead type, arrow brand....or nothing. 🤔
Only the shot at 50 yards.
I'm guessing it was shot with a crossbow and it seems to be happening more and more. Even the DNR has mentioned that the archery season is surpassing the firearms season for the amount of kills and they are attributing it to increased crossbow usage.

He used a cross gun! Says it several times in the article

I re-read the article 2x and this is the only mention of a weapon type and it says: "I had my crossbow so I slipped that way and spotted his antlers in the grass." I missed that sentence while reading through it, on the first pass. 🙄

I hunted with my crossbow for the first time, last year and took a doe. However, it was a very uneventful and anti-climatic kill, compared to my compound or recurve. I didn't care for it, but it serves a purpose. To each their own. :)

This is the same guy who was the camera man for the big poached deer in Highland county a couple years ago. I dont know anything about him as a fact other then he filmed a big buck being poached and had no issues with it, and is good hunting buddies with the 2x poacher. See the "poacher busted" thread. My opinion has always been if you hang around shit long enough then you start to smell like it.

The way he bounces all over, I 100% belive he at least is the type of person that scrolls places like this finding big deer. Finds out the area and moves in on you. Even if he is the guy doing it legal (unlike his hunting partner), it still violates man law. People like this are ruining what little bit of sharing we have left in this. Disgust me when it pops up and these guys get the fame they're looking for. While the locals get fucked and blasted for "being jealous hunters".

100% right. Im almost embarrassed to tell people I deer hunt anymore due to the self promoters and ego maniacs who have soured the sport. I was sickened to attend the Fayette County Whitetail Unlimited banquet last year and see the entire poaching crew there rubbing shoulders. I will never support that organization again. There honestly seems to be a larger then average amount of poachers and poacher apologists in that county then I have encountered in most. Ive encountered more then just this crew there.

He use to film and hunt for whitetail edge and ben rising. But not sure what happened there.
Last i heard he quit filming because "jealous hunters" turning them in for filming themselves poaching a deer. I've not seen a public apology from any of them. The only thing they are sorry for is their asses "finally" got caught. No clue if Dave is a poacher or not but filming someone else poach and then bragging about it tells me all I need to know.

I have grown to hate big deer. I used to love seeing them and reading the stories. Now I see how they change a community and hurt the locals. I used to cringe a little back when @bowhunter1023 would use the two words "industry and career". Now when I read them words I notice I'm clenching my teeth. They are so spot on for this thing I still call a tradition and I refuse to let go. It was so much more fun when we hunted for ourselves and size really didn't matter. Back when we celebrated spikes and forks. I just told a group of guys last night that I might shoot a spike with my son this week, just to do it. The memories that'll come from that will be epic and that's what I'm trying to show him. Not screwing your buddy over a few inches of bone. Life fucks me enough, I don't need to add karma/bad juju.

I guess I went on a little rant...enjoy gun week folks. Shoot that forkie and be proud enough to share it! Don't forget to verify your guns today! You want to know that it was buck fever that made you miss that basket rack 🤣🤣🤣

Nice to see nothing has changed with industry types. Years ago when TOO was younger we had the fortunate and unfortunate opportunity to acquaint ourselves with many of the "names" around Ohio. The only dude I ever met that had a shred of honor and integrity was Kip Campbell and that was only for a night at the Buckeye Cam shoot but you could tell he was a real guy. The rest of them were just shysters, cheaters, and people you wouldn't trust with your ink pen. I've always said, you show me a guy that consistently kills big deer and tries to get his name in the articles and I'll show you a shady mother fucker.

I'm hunting a big chunk of WNF with buddies tomorrow. I'm the walkabout guy and with the wet leaves, I may very well get a shot at something. With nothing on cam I want to shoot, duck season around the corner, and having never killed a public land deer, I may steal your thunder @giles and kill a scrubber!
As long as I get my honorary pictures, take that thunder!

Walbridge oh
I hear you Dave on the spikes and little bucks. Got a bucket in the shed full of little year and a half six or seven pointers that all have a killer story and memory to go with. Great eating and no taxidermy bill lol.
