The individual berries are the size of blueberries.

Looks like an Ivy. Probably an older heirloom variety before berries were bread out of todays nursery stock. Was there an old homesite nearby?

It was in a fence row near the road. Nothing that resembled an old homestead to speak of.

I honestly know nothing about this...and from that place of ignorance I would guess a grape of some sort.

Appalachia
It looks similar to the cluster on English ivy when it fruits, but the timing is odd, as is the lack of leaves. A variety of wild or feral grape certainly makes sense.

I originally put English Ivy also, but like you the lack of leaves was puzzling so I left it at ivy. An interresting one for sure.

Here's the response to your question:
It is nice to find neat things in the landscape that add interest and color and nature provides that as well as a minor food source for wildlife. The berry clusters that you have photographed appear to be that of the Carrion Flower (Smilax herbacea). This plant blooms in May to June and the flowers have a "nice" fly-attracting odor that gives the plant its name. You might make a note of this find's location and return in the spring to confirm the flower's odor properties. Please follow the links below for more information.

Ever tasted dog shit off a lawn mower tire? I’d imagine it’s pretty close to the same...

I have not. Tell me tho if ya saw that in the woods you wouldn’t be tempted to try it.👀 With out the other information already given. I know I would.

Also at first glance it looks like there’s a dead deer laying behind the berry patch.
