I think this applies to how I feel about some members here. Always amazes me that some people just show up to share a picture. No story or much of anything really. Thread title saying something along the lines of "my 2023 buck" and then a picture with dates. Lol. I am not the same person as that kind of person.

With the Alexander buck debacle going on it has me wondering if that is what keeps people silent. I always say I wouldn't tell the internet if I ever killed a giant. But we all know I don't know how to STFU. Lol. Article interested me, thought I'd share and maybe it'll turn into a good discussion. I really liked the way the article ended. Warm and fuzzy. Just like TOO, these are my kind of people.

They dropped them off because they wanted the score to brag. They probably have access to a property that produces a buck like that each year and it holds three others just like it. It's not about the buck, but simply about the ego and persona. There are two types of big buck hunters, the ones who enjoy big deer and love sharing the story of hunts and the chase with family and friends. And ones who think killing big deer makes them better than other people and some kind of cool person to be looked up to. We've had a few of the latter on TOO over the years, once they realized nobody here is going to look up to them to feed their ego they disappeared, and we're better off without them.

Funny you posted this. Greg Hicks is a good guy and a virtual friend. He used to be a moderator on a hunting site called “Bayou Bucks”. I say virtual because I don’t think we shook hands before but chatted online. I even wrote an article on xbows for bayou bucks magazine. Yes he needed to do some editing, I’m not a writer. He has since moved on and now a buck masters certified scorer and does a podcast. Haven’t watched any cause, well, that’s not my thing. I won’t change my thought process of what I’ve been doing most of my life.

Anyway, people hunt for all different reasons and antlers mean something different to everyone. And then there is the 5 stages of a hunter. Some 15 years ago I’d almost die to kill what I’m passing today, that’s only cause I’ve killed bigger and if it don’t excite me, why kill it, let it go another year. If it gets killed by a hunter that’s tickled to death over it I’m happy with that. I understand his hang up with people not guarding their rack, but it’s possibly no where close to someone’s best rack imo. To me that rack tells of a memory that when I look at it makes me recall of that hunt, how it went down and who may have been with me. I’ve mounted deer much smaller than my best because of the hunt and memories. I’ve never had a rack officially scored but we tape them out just for reference. I can take pics of the same deer and you’d say 20” difference in the two pics. I don’t take pics to deceive but to have a good quality pic to last for years to save that memory. If you’ve read my thread you understand what I’m saying.

Like any good deer land or leases there is snakes in the weeds. Leases get bought out from underneath you all the time because the land owner got to see your cam pics or someone seen you deer you killed. Plenty of giants are killed here that no one has a pic of. I’ve held a few in my hands. It is what it is.

Well, I read it. I different opinions on the article.

I believe people have a right to do what ever the fugg they want with their deer.

If he’s doing a job for free and loves to do it it shouldn’t matter what so ever. Should a thank you be given by all means .

Some people don’t want to be involved in Social media have their pictures took posted etc etc .

To each their own maybe the person is sick maybe they were embarrassed maybe high anxiety I personally don’t think it matters. 🤷🏼‍♂️ Not my monkey not my circus. All in all that’s that person choice . Who he shares his story with and why he doesn’t.

My Dad who is passed now killed many big bucks some he would just skull cap some he would Euro mount the generic way.

By the time he passed he had exactly zero left. If someone came to the house and commented on a Euro or a skull cap and they really genuinely liked it . He would look at them and say they could have it.

Pull it off the wall hand it to them and off it went. I asked him why and his answer was simple you can’t eat the rack.

I’ve never scored or had any of mine scored I’ve guessed but who knows probably wrong I know I have some bigger than others and some smaller just like my D… 🤣🤷🏼‍♂️
To me I get great satisfaction just knowing I killed a nice if not the nicest one I have on cam for my area. I also am okay eating tag soup just the same . I just love being out there. The deer is the bonus .

Agin if I killed a buck like the one kid did I would take steps to be as carful as I could with protecting myself showing it was killed lawfully, but I still wouldn’t post it.

Maybe if N I ever do I’ll have one of my kids when I pass have it scored and leave a note in an envelope with the story enclosed and at the end say something along the lines of I never really cared what others thought! To me it’s personal and everyone knows the internet is full of assholes!🤣

After all what really gauges if a Hunter is a good hunter or not. Is it really the size of the rack?

I don’t think so far from it.👍
