Just curious why you wait for the WO to get there? I know you need a tag for deadheads, but, I’ve always took a good video of the deer and scene and sawed the antlers off, washed & scrubbed and gave them to the dog. I actually wait till the end of March and go get ODNR tags from the Police department for all the dead bucks I’ve cut antlers off of. Is this wrong or illegal? Or is there a difference for public land vs. private land?
It is Law. It seems like it is much easier to play by the rules than to explain how you end up with all the deadheads found over the years.

Let me know how that works. Took me months to get one for the creek buck. I believe had I not pestered him so much, I’d still be waiting. Hopefully you have better luck with your GW.

Dont just keep calling the same person. If they're not wanting to do their job start ringing up the tree and start asking what your tag/license fees are paying for if you cant get ahold of an officer. Being a public agency everyone's phone number all the way up to Director Mertz is publicly available. I can understand they might not be able to come to you but theres no reason you cant go to them during their shift while they're doing paperwork in their truck in a mcdonalds parking lot.
I definitely dont suggest hoarding them thru the season as if you get stopped all they see is a load of illegal dead heads. They will get confiscated and you will get a nice ticket depending on how many there are, if there are lots theres a good chance your home will he their next stop.

That’s when I got mine, when I worked his chain of command. I was told multiple times it would be in the mail the next day. He ended up hand delivering it.

I have our WO officers personal cell. We have worked together over the years with Veterans hunts. He called when he was in my area to borrow a ladder once to rescue baby owls abandoned. He has been used to dispatch a deer which entered a commercial property (through a store front window). I know him. Left message on his business phone with a "whenever you get a chance" voice mail message. He is a good guy. He will get back with me. He could be off today or tied up. It isn't a huge deal. BUT. . .knowing him this well also means you take the proper steps and get the proper tag. He knows. . .that I know. . .how this works. If I don't hear from him tomorrow I'll text him pics on his personal cell and ask to grab the head and get tag later. He is one guy covering a lot of ground. A tag for a deadhead isn't exactly an emergency.

The last (2) years I just made a call to the Police Department and they came out with ODNR tags (in my city they have them for when a deer gets hit by a car and someone wants roadkill for some reason) and they fill them out for you. Phone video of the dead deer and google map point location is on my phone. They’ve never given me a problem??

With pics taken and sent to WO, I drug the deer to middle of property. It was within 10yds of property line. Didn't want coyotes to drag it off the property.

Took a good walk. Checked some heavily used trails and even some thicker bedding type areas. No dice on sheds. That is. . .until I walked back out and found the match to the one I found a few days ago!!! Puts me at 3 plus a deadhead for the year. Great start for me. Better than I did all last year total.

Nice job!!! Love split brow tines and antlers with character!! What part of Ohio? Spent the last 2 days searching with no luck. Did see 23 different bucks in different areas still holding both sides and 1 small half rack. Got the new Vortex 12x50 and could see clearly enough that none had pedicules showing🙄...Buddha was happy he found a leg🙄. Even let him chase the bucks hoping the racks would fall off when they jumped the fences. No luck!!
