Also notice number 5 on page 10...it isn’t highlighted, but I’m pretty sure that’s new this year or last. No baiting deer on public land.

None of this matters to me. I don't hunt public land. Plus, rules only apply to the honest ones who abide by them.

I was just talking to Dante the other day about the updates on public land hunting. Told him we could only shoot 1 doe off of ALL state land until gun season started. Then it went to bucks only for gun season. Also note that starting DECEMBER 3rd you can't shoot anything off public land unless it's a designated area.

I believe that on Dec 3 thru the end of the season you can still take antlered deer on public land. I think there are some public lands that exempt from this where you can still shoot antlerless. At least that is the way I am reading it.

Look at the red section 3rd point down. The way I'm reading that is that unless it's a controlled hunt you can't shoot any deer off public land starting Dec. 3rd

I saw that but that is not the way that I am reading it and not what I have seen posted other places concerning this reg. It is confusing. For one thing I can't find the list that they mention in the 1st red bullet online anywhere. Maybe someone else can chime in. I am still looking online. I may call or email them when I get a chance if I can't find confirmation.

I just sent them a message on Facebook. I sent this. "I have a question on the new public land rules for deer. On page 7 under the public land the 3rd bullet in red states " From Dec. 3, 2018, through Feb. 3, 2019,only antlered deer may be taken from specific public hunting areas in Ohio." What are the specific areas? Does this mean that there are public areas you can't harvest any deer including antlered after Dec 3? "

It said no baiting turkeys for the longest time, they added the deer in the last few. I don’t have the drive to look it up, my guess would be around 2016-17’ season.
Been that way for a long time, Dave. Waayyy before 2016-2017 season. This is not a "new" regulation.

No. Through deer gun season you can shoot either buck or doe on public ground. After deer gun season, only antlered deer can be taken on public ground. One doe per year from public. Only one antlered deer per season, as usual.

That is the way I understood it, but I can see how RedCloud read it the other way. I think it is confusing the way it is written. They also should have a direct link to the list of the places that are exempt.

The only exemptions are controlled hunts. The purpose of the controlled hunts is to reduce population so that's why this rule doesn't apply, and it's also why you can use the $15 antlerless tags for controlled hunts.
