    Flies

I googled fly strike since I didn't know what it was...now I'm wishing I still didn't. Our fly bag traps were basically full in 4 days (2 bags on our deck). I tossed them and bought a reusable/refillable trap from Rescue. It's already catching them in large numbers in the first 24 hours.

Listed at 45@28". I have no scale but it feels about right and the arrows I shoot from my other bows of similar weight shoot fine from it. I draw closer to 29" and it definitely stacks a bit in that last 1-1.5". Nothing I can't shoot through, but the tail end of the draw is not great compared to...

    Flies

This is our first year at this house, but the last house was only about 8-9 miles away so it's not like a really new area. We had one random year at the last house that was similar to this. Now I wish I could remember if it was a bad EHD year.

    2025 EHD?

That's my current approach, as well. I've decided I'm not shooting a doe for sure until after we've had a frost and see where things stand. Got some bucks on camera I'd love to stick but I'm not blowing stuff out right now with this hot weather. It's a marathon, not a sprint.

This doesn't have to be expensive

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love the Black Widow I've been shooting for the past couple of years. I shoot it great and I feel it was worth every cent that it cost. The one catch, I can't shoot it out of all of my ground blinds. It's a 62" bow and I shoot with a near vertical bow. In a...

This is one of the traps. They’re both this full.

    Flies

Somewhat random question: is anyone else seeing crazy amounts of flies outside? Is it possibly related to the EHD outbreak (large number of carcasses leading to large amounts of flies)? I am in Athens County. We have two disposable bag fly traps on our back deck and in about 4 days they are...

It makes more sense to me to study EHD deeper than CWD, but I'm new here.

I even had the thought, what if in the future I put out a couple of water tanks to provide the deer with a water source that has steep walls and not be suitable for the midges...but there's just too many other water sources for them that you can't control. Creeks, ponds, wetland areas...I'm just...

I am curious about the population over there. In the past 7-8 years, I have run a lot of cameras and hunted that area quite a bit. I’ve had a lot of good hunts and had some great deer on camera over there. Of course, THIS is the year I made the decision not to run cameras on public. I still plan...

    Wildlife Council Meeting: 9/17 @ 4:30P - District 4 HQs

I'm not trying to stir up fecal matter, but from my personal perspective, it seems like there are certain "pockets" that have been hit a lot harder than others. I'm in Athens County, I know we have lost a few deer near our property...but from what I see daily and what my cameras suggest, we...

Not sure how I missed being tagged in this, but I would not have been able to make it last night either way. My son had baseball last night.

    cold shot

Something I changed a few weeks back that really made a difference for me, as odd as this may seem, is switch back to my old glasses. Not sure how many of you try to shoot with glasses on, but I'm stuck doing it. I've tried contacts and they don't work well for me. My most recent glasses have...

    Creamer's 25/26 Season Journal

Just like clockwork, as we enter mid-September, bucks begin to appear on my cameras here. It's promising to see some deer showing up, even though we're not through the gauntlet quite yet. This scrape is where I historically get a lot of good buck photos. This scrape is on an old logging road...

Let's be a little realistic here and give the Bobcats some credit. These aren't the same Bobcats I watched in college, lucky to win 3-4 games and struggling at home with 1-AA opponents. They have won 31 games in the last three years, and this year probably should have won at Rutgers (Big Ten...

    2025 EHD?

I'm not sure I 100% buy that in the case of the area I'm talking about. Those river bottoms are heavily farmed on both sides of the river just south of Athens. The campus/city deer where I am seeing them don't have a lot of water options outside of the same one south of town: the Hocking. There...

    2025 EHD?

Here's a couple updates from me and what I am seeing around Athens. Our yard doe, that I previously posted pics of in this thread that appeared to be EHD-affected, has drastically improved. Her coat is still patchy but she's no longer acting lethargic/apathetic. I have seen her and her BB fawn...

Very interesting how closely the hair pattern matches our deer at my place.

    2025 EHD?

So this was her on Aug 22, based off the image details from when she and her fawn were in our front yard. And this is her this morning. From this angle you can't tell from the pic it's her, but I know it's her because I drove right past her coming down the driveway. Her fawn isn't with her...
