Waterfowl Regulations - The Grey Areas

What Jager said, you are fine hunting from Ohio shore as long as you do not anchor or set decoys in WV waters. Not sure about WV, but in the Kentucky, you are permitted to the High water mark.

FOR SALE 5 acres For Sale in Adams County

Property has approximately 1 acre field and 4 acres of mature hardwoods. Electric installed, with county water available on property and septic approved. Multiple P&Y deer shot of this 5 acre tract. Several of the surrounding property owners also gave me permission to hunt, 3 miles from...

    ND Trip

We hunted the Northern part of the state. We could have field hunted but the reason I go to ND is to shoot water and work my dogs so we rode it out. Not our best year but always a good time in ND. I only shot the AH Fox 1909 SxS a couple days, to damn expensive to shoot Bismuth. Just...

    ND Trip

Had a great time although the weather was tough at times. We got caught in the middle the last part of the week. Got cold and snowed locked everything up local birds left and no migrators. We still managed to scratch out some birds. Phez hunting was amazing tons of birds this year.

    First real Season

The crazy thing about it is you can have many different types of hunts if you choose to. One morning we will set up on big water and shoot Cans, Redheads and Blue Bills, the next day we will set up on a small hole shoot Teal, Mallards and Widgeons. I don't field hunt just because I love to...

    First real Season

We hunt the Western side, from the forecast looks like we will be dealing with some skim ice on the sloughs. Looking forward to some cool weather. It truly is amazing place shoot a limit of mixed bag ducks in the morning eat a big breakfast, take a nap then go shoot Phez, sharpies and huns...

    First real Season

Got the little guy fitted for his vest! Worked him on the Ohio with some big water stuff this weekend. Love his drive and he's handling blinds really well, steady as a rock to shot. Really impressed with him for 1.4 years old. I took him to North Dakota, last year a 5 months, he mainly...

    North Dakota Countdown

    Yellow Lab

Training for upland I would get a 50' check cord and a good pair of leather gloves trust me on the gloves. Watch a few you tube videos. An out of control Lab with a nose full of bird scent will ruin your day in the field, or you will need a pair of track shoes to keep up. Watch a few pointing...

28 guage for upland bird hunting?

I have a 28/20 Beretta silver pigeon combo. I find when I used the 28 I choked up. When preserve hunting/training dogs on Phez. I shoot Mod/Full #4 or 5. I would not use a 28 for wild roosters. I shoot Fox's exclusively for upland now. You can find deals on a nice 16ga Sterlingworth that...

Thoughts and ideas first hunting dog

I really like Mike Lardy's DVD series. Think about it what's 150 bucks when your going to have the dog for the next 10-15 years. One thing I would caution you on, if your not experienced with E-collars, find someone to train with that is experienced. I have seen many a good dog ruined with an...

    Training a shed dog

Do not use the antler in the house or let the kids play with him with the antler. Use a small 1" paint roller to start him retrieving in the house. Let him be a puppy his attention span will be very short at for the first few months. Use a puppy program to get his foundation for obedience...

    First walk with the Boys

They are done shed hunting when we make contact with birds. I always keep a small fork horn with me to get them back on track when that happens. Seems to work well, but they are bird dogs first. The older dog held both woodcocks, so that was nice to see.

    Holly Hills - South Salem

There are Wild Phez in South Central Ohio, im not going to say a good popuation but there are birds. We kill a few roosters every year, I'm not talking about the released birds. The public land that holds wild birds gets lots of pressure. Best oppurtunity is early season on a week day! Be...

    Holly Hills - South Salem

The only comparison between a preserve hunt and a wild bird prairie hunt, is the birds look the same and taste the same, but thats about all. Wild bird typically flush wild or run great distances to heavy cover. You need a pretty good dog not only to pin down the birds but mark and retrieve in...

    TOO Waterfowl Chronicles

I shot a Red Head on the river last year that was banded in Alberta, long flight. He probably buzzed my spread in October while hunting in NoDak. All banded geese we shot this year were banded in Indy.

    TOO Waterfowl Chronicles

Duck Commander Army was out in full force this weekend. I hunt the Ohio River, and had only seen a couple boats all season. Had 5 boats set around me Saturday, 2 jackasses cruise in at 8am set up for an hour across river from me, started blowing their Kazoo's nonstop. Next this i notice smoke...
