Dog training tips or a good trainer?

So I took my beagle out for the first time yesterday to see how she dose in the field. I was quite surprised that with zero formal training she was quite able to track and flush two pheasants and a rabbit. The disappointment came after the shots were fired, and she ran a mile back to the...

    Pheasants in Cesear Creek

Decided I want to try pheasant hunting. Anyone planning to go the release / massacre this week and want to meet up / teach a newb?

    Live From the Stand 2017.

Saw nothing all day yesterday, so I figured I'd wait till after lunch today. Bumped 3 does on my way in, been quiet other than that. Except for the dudes hunting pheasants.... Doubt I'll see anything else till dusk

Rut? Pre Rut? Where are we and what's the real difference?

Hi all. Been doing a lot of research on what rut means, and what it really means for hunting. Sounds like it makes hunting a little easier as we would see more deer up and moving. What I can't seem to figure out is a way to distinguish when this happens, or a hood set of behaviors that...

    FML... Bad shot advice

Thanks again all for the quick replies, the sound advice, and the encouragement along the way! I learned a TON of lessons this morning, and can't wait to get back out there. Most important lesson is to relax a bit when I see a deer, and make sure I'm confident in my shot. I shall be spending...

    FML... Bad shot advice

Well, I finally get a shot on a deer, and it didn't land where I wanted. It hit her in the spine, and her back legs dropped out from under her. I'm sure it's going to be fatal, but how long should I wait before I approach her? She's laying at the bottom of the hill struggling, but...

    Deer Processing Questions

This is a good point... anyone have any recommendations for sw Ohio? I'm hunting Cesar creek, and "live" in mason. Somewhere not too far from either of those so prefered.

    Deer Processing Questions

As this is my first year and you all have been seriously helpful, I'll tap the vault once more. What is the protocol for getting a deer processed? Do I need to call the processor before I've even killed the deer to line that up, or just call after I've completed the deer check process...

    Opening weekend

Hunted Clinton co sat evening. Only saw one deer, at 196yds across the soybean field. Watched him walk straight to me, and he gets in range three min too late. Talk about a great first day hunting.

Trail Cams: How long before you check it?

I got some nice bucks walkin past the cams, and more coons, possums, and yotes then I thought existed. The cable locks and positioning well off the beaten path have kept all of them safe so far. Weekly pulls seem to have kept pressure down, however I didn't spray a camera down one time, and...

    Buck Age / Weight?

Thanks for all the feedback. I think quartering him is a great suggestion. If I'm lucky enough to get a clean shot I'm gonna go that route.
