Rumor Has it. No Ohio Baiting

I go and dump 100 pounds of corn around my stand. By your definition I am baiting.

A giant Sycamore falls into a cornfield and the farmer goes around it with the combine leaving it standing. I hang a stand over it. By your definition I am not baiting.

Again. Silly. I am using the animals enticement to an area against itself. I am baiting in both instances.

Next time I go to hunt that stand I rake them all into one big pile and climb up in the same stand. Magically somehow I am now baiting according to your definition.

Plain silliness. Both is using an animals enticement to an item against it which is baiting.

By your definition, so is hunting on the trail it used to get to said acorns. Even if it's a mile a way. So a deer is always baited unless fleeing an area. Even then, is it the baiting that took them to that area to be pushed out.... That sounds better....glad we talked this out.

It's a simple formula really.

1. Is the animal being enticed to this area by an object. (Bait)

2. Am I using that enticement to my advantage. (Baiting)

If the answer to both of those is yes. You're baiting.

You're mostly right. I don't care about the ethics, legality, or cause or high horse someone tries to ride. . I don't care if a person dumps it by truckload or despises it. I care more about calling a spade a spade. But. I'm not shy of a debate either. Lol.
 
Well, I couldn't resist any longer. I read and got caught up on the last 8 pages of this thread. That's 15 minutes of my life I wish I could have back...

Is that doe bedding area enticing a buck to use that pinch point?

Are you using that enticement against said buck and to your advantage?

How is it any different than if I dumped a bag of corn in that bedding area and hunted the same pinch point? The object that enticed the animal is not relevant. The end result is the animal is being enticed and I am using that to my advantage.

ANYBODY who considers that baiting, I wasn't just referring to the authorities. Here's my take on the baiting issue, then I'll just read. If it's legal, go for it, but If I were given a choice to bait or not bait, I wouldn't. I don't believe there's any similarities between a pile of corn and acorns falling from various trees in a given area of woods. That pile of corn is bringing deer to a "specific spot", where as oaks (plural/numerous) on a "flat" give deer a choice of which tree to feed under. And that could be ANY tree, not just the one you're under/in. There's the difference. There's randomness to oaks, not so with a pile of corn.

Female deer: yes. Buck deer: no. Bucks are never lost. Sometimes they end up in an unknown location, but they don't get lost. If it weren't for the nagging doe, and three screaming button bucks in the backseat, he wouldn't have missed his exit.

Now to correlate this to our bait discussion. Where's a screaming sheep when ya need one?

what if I snag a walleye with a bare treble hook on purpose? I mean, I did put the hook in the place where the walleye's food and breeding ground is on purpose, although I didn't use anything to attract the fish other than the water it lives in.
