Localised networking in a non business environment. I have a ton of professional connections but our connection is purely business and typically centered around my career field. I need to expand that to other areas. It never hurts to be on a first-name basis with an attorney, accountant, financial planner, director of a local company, board member of a local nonprofit etc.
Then definetly masons isn't for you. But I can't say I see a lot of those you are looking for at an eagle or moose lodge either.

For what it's worth,
I have found that "most" people joining a club or group to simply network become annoying or are usually just taking up space on a roster.
Find a organization you have a passion or belief in, and the networking will come by default.

Open a pizza joint in a small town. Ha.

I know nothing about the Masons, except every Mason I know is a standup guy. The old man I used to fish and hunt with as a child often told me that I should be a Mason, but he would never tell me what it involved. He said I needed to go through the process to find out, which I suppose is standard. But, I never did anything about it. However, I DO NOT think there is anything underhanded or "darkside" about them just because of the people I know that are involved.

I belonged to Eagles back in the days I was in the Finance Industry. I found it just a place for lonely people to drink and gamble with. But at lunch time we would get together and have a cheap sandwich and play pool.
My SIL belongs to Mouse, VFW, and Eagles and when we visit her and go there it's just the same ole group of lonely people drinking and gambling together. Just doesn't fit into my life style.

But joining on of these groups and advertise you are looking for hunting locations would be a great outlet. Then the good old boy system would kick in with offers good or bad.

Because most people are stupid and don't have a clue how to build social relationships. If someone walks into a social atmosphere with the mindset of building professional relationships they're going to turn a lot of people off and quickly be ignored. Those people are viewed as a bothersome gnat. While my intention is to foster relationships it must be done in the context of the atmosphere. This is accomplished by becoming a valued member be it through volunteer work, involvement, and providing benefit as well as being personable and staying out of clickey politics. Take care of that and the networking will take care of itself.

No. No darkside at all. They just incorporate their symbols into the street and monument layout of Washington DC. Not surprising considering George Washington was a Mason, along with 14 other presidents.

Like I said you're lower local guys are just a good ole group of guys in a fraternity. Most I've met were stand up people. However the masonic influence on US and world politics and corporations is pretty substantial. Your local lodge Masons really have no clue how the upper levels work or what they're involved in. Just as the old man wouldn't tell you what it entailed, they also havr levels and degrees within the order where they aren't allowed to know things above them. Just as a low level employee of Enron never knew the CFO was cooking the books and making insider trading stock deals for others at his level.

Im a former member of the VFW in Fairfield, I left bc the jukebox sucked and the place smelled like formaldehyde. Im currently a member of the American Legion in Hamilton. Its not too bad I guess. Beer is cheap. Not a very big place, space wise. They do a lot for the community tho. I just recently joined the Optimist club in Fairfield. $1.50 beer at the weekly meetings. Everyone plays cards after the meetings. The MASC tournament is held here every year and this group does a ton of community work. Even the Mayor is a member. They also bust each others balls like we do here. I think Ill enjoy that group lol.

What he says....

What about the Rotary Club,Optimist, or even the local Chamber of Commerce type gatherings? It would be good for networking but you will end up with sales people pestering you who are trying to expand. The insurance salesman type who doesn't have much time in service may end up calling you frequently to sell you life insurance. Lol

Have you thought about your local BNI or referral groups? I represent our company in one. They open the doors to many of the careers you listed above. Ours meets once a week for a hour and a half. I can't believe the amount of business generated once I built the relationship s with the other members.

If you want to look at our group and see what it looks like check out mansfieldbussinessconnections.com

I don't hold much thought in the DC drawn out symbols. If you took the time those symbols could be laid out in most US cities. Just pick out the right landmark and draw a line. If it doesn't match the symbol wanted just pick another landmark until it does. IMO.

Ohhhhhh you should not have told me that man. So which oath violation penalty is it for you. Disembowlment. Cut throat. Tongue torn out by the root. Breasts slashed off. Or my favorite, heart torn out and given as prey to the beasts.

I know I know. Just symbolism right.

In all seriousness though we should let this lay bud. You're my friend. It's been my experience over the years that Masons very much don't appreciate a well studied non brother discussing their going ons. Especially things way above their position and it always ends in bad blood. Eric, I joined and went to a mormon church for over a year because their secret ceramonies fascinated me. To the point that I sat down for 6 hours witth the KY stake presidency and his 12 high council members to discuss mormon history and teachings. Hell i just got the missionaries to stop showing up last year after 14 years of not going to a mormon church. Never believed it. Just found it fascinating. Masons are considerably more dificult to infiltrate but thankfully this isnt the 1800s anymore and many ex masons to include some very high Masons have divulged pretty much everything for the non brotherhood to study. I have nothing against Masons and most I've met are really awesome people. It just isn't for me. Fascinating as all hell. But not my thing.
