We're talking deer, Joe... Not money. Stop being ridiculous.

It's the same thing. The hunters are the investor, the DNR is the fund manager. Do you honestly think hunters care about Nationwides quarterly balance sheet. No. They trusted the DNR who screwed them to shore up the profits of an insurance company.

The DNR loves to tout how they must maintain a delicate balancing act between hunters, people, and the needs of blah blah blah. Hunters don't care, we care about hunting and deer. That's it. Investors are funny that way. They care about their investment. That's how special interest works. From where hunters sit the only people getting screwed in this are hunters. IE other special interest is making out like a bandit The same as if an investment manager lost half their investment on purpose to beef up the profits of a 40 billion dollar insurance company.

Just a random thought. If we were misled about 750,000 deer for like 4 years.... What would guarantee us the figure they are claiming to be harvested, is in fact an honest figure? We are 9,000 deer down. Who can guarantee that number is not 18,000 ???? Maybe 21,000 ??? Who would be the wiser ????

I will throw this out there for you guys to chew on:

Is it the rise in social media, or are there truly THAT many monsters shot in Ohio every year? On the FB pages I have seen post after post after post of genuine monsters killed this year. All over the state. Is this the norm and we are seeing it more due to the rise in popularity of social media? Or. . . .Is it due to the big boys being forced to move due to lower population of does?

I'll leave my personal opinions out of it.

I think that social media does make it seem like that there are more big buck killed. Used to be before the internet you would only know about the local one's thru word of mouth.

It's not the same thing. On one hand you have someone's livelihood, their actual monetary investments... On the other you have deer. Fuggin deer, man. Come on now...

I will not be swayed by your neverending hypothetical analogies. Save your thumbs the typing, dude. I guess I'm a lost cause.

The object doesn't matter. The result is the same. Investors got screwed to shore up the profits of big insurance. The entity responsible is just that. Responsible and they yet should expect the repercussions.

I know you're a lost cause bud and gave up trying to sway you a long time ago. I'm just making your bias blatantly obvious so nobody actually buys it.

Jim, I am not biased against the ODNR. Much of what they do is absolutely great for Sportsmen and Wildlife alike. And I honestly hate siding with Joe sometimes (Sorry Joe but your an Alabama fan and all....rotflmao) But dammit, it sure hit home when the deer disappeared just like he said! Sure, I could kill all my tags and help Joy with all hers. But that would put us even further in the hole. I too thought it was a bunch of shit. I went through all the excuses...their too lazy to hunt. Their hunting a farm that just sucks. They don't know what their doing. Guess what, I hate to admit it....but they were speaking an honest opinion from what they SEEN. You're just not seeing it yet. I'm on your side Jim....but had to admit defeat when it hit me hard.

Let me ask you this, Jim. Do you think the herd was unhealthy back in '80-'09?
No, I do not. Actually I believe antler beam diameters on 1.5 yr old bucks were larger on average back then than now. I know... What sense does that make?

I know you're a lost cause bud and gave up trying to sway you a long time ago. I'm just making your bias blatantly obvious so nobody actually buys it.

You may think my opinion is biased, but that couldn't be further from the truth. The fact of the matter is I've had ZERO reasons in the last decade to believe I've been "screwed" as you like to say. I've had ZERO reasons to worry about the status of our deer herd. Sorry, I guess I'm just lucky. Biased... No sir. I simply believe what my eyes tell me. Trust me, there are plenty of things the DNR does that I completely disagree with. This just doesn't happen to be one of them.

But the books show the opposite.
Books are not for everyone. I put my first archery buck in P&Y. Some day I'll enter an OBB just so I can attend the banquet once to experience it. I have a couple which would qualify but never got officially scored. IF I am ever fortunate enough to harvest a B&C buck I'll decide at that time. Just saying there are a ton of book bucks which are not entered.

CSPOT- I think they there is more visibility due to social media. But. . .I think there are more book caliber bucks being killed right now because they are out pursuing does. Does not in their normal home turf. They are being forced to seek them out and getting killed. In the short term it has been good for myself and many others. Moving forward I don't know if it will continue. With less does there will be less future deer to make it to this level. More active bucks during the rut means less bucks making it to maturity. I fear eventually there will simply be less everything. Less does, less young bucks, less old bucks. . . .

I'm sure that has always been the case. If anything, more people want to enter nowadays so they can get their "pro staff" blah blah blah bullshit.

Pro staff. Ha! I am on the Hank Tucker Outdoors pro staff. Does that count for anything? Boarhead is on the "Giles can eat a bag of wankers" pro staff and he doesn't enter his deer. Lol

This group obviously isn't the type...but we all know them. "I wonder what that buck is worth?" That wasn't even a thought 10-15 years ago.

No, no I have not. I was thinking more B&C type of guys. The next Waddel guys or they guy selling hunts. Those guys are the ones wanting their names and bragging rights. And the list of those guys is growing, faster then the industry can handle.

I have taken a look at that list a few times, probably been over a year since my last look though.

This is also my deal on social media. Today everyone has a camera in their pocket. So you don't get the word of mouth that Jimbo's uncle killed a nice buck. You see pictures and all of a sudden, everyone knows this guy. Pictures spread and everyone sees them. It was never like that before. It was word of mouth and maybe you got to see it during a graduation party or something. No one really cared. People hunted for themselves, not for fame and fortune. I can't think of a single member here that I would put in this group. Sure if I ever get lucky enough to kill a OBB caliber buck, I'd probably enter it. Just to say I did. A lot of today's hunters would do some real shady shit for a chance at a B&C deer. I consider this place more old school and that's why I like you guys.

Also, I've been guilty of showing off other people's deer. So don't take that the wrong way either. It's all part of it today.
