To enjoy the hunt with a friend weighs more to me then antlers, that's what I'm saying. Sounds to me like the buddy is having a blast and John is missing out on the fun over one small factor. One guy is living a dream while the other is still chasing. I'm not hating on anyone for chasing a good buck, it's your hunt. Just pointing out another side or the story. Maybe the old man is the one teaching new tricks here...

I'm not terribly upset or even frustrated, I guess I was just venting/seeing if anyone else on here knows anyone that grunts and uses decoys the 1st day of October in a 60 acre woods and if I am nuts for thinking "what the hell are you doing?" But your statement is accurate, can't believe that bud light clogged brain could produce such a profound thought!

If he's 70 and still has the fire to get in the woods, he'll let him enjoy his self. Not every day is a guarantee. I find that when you try to change a way a hunter hunts, it doesn't go well for the most part, unless they ask. Point in hand people do things I would never do in the woods . I also do things that others would never do in the woods. Yet it all boils down to we all do what we think will give us the better edge, what gives us that feeling of becoming more successful. I think that motivates most of us to hunt more.

Somebody may forget their face mask and feel their hunt isn't going to be as great. Me I don't wear one. Etc

So if he wants to take a decoy heck more power to him. Just hunt away from him.

The big question is if he kills that 160 with it ..... then what?😀👀

In regards to Phil's statement. As an older hunter I still learn things on this site. Some I shake my head at and some I say "Why didn't I think of that". The majority of hunters hunt from trees which just isn't in the cards for myself. But, I can adapt some of the tactics while still on the ground. I remember in the 70's I peed in a bottle when hunting, now I pee in scrapes. It may not help me shoot a buck but if nothing else peeing in scrapes is easier. See we all learn new tricks.

There you go. Brings it back to my point: Age has nothing to do with it. Receptiveness to new ideas or change will determine if your buddy will adapt.

That was my one good thought for the year. Glad I got it out of the way early in the season. Time to celebrate [emoji482]

Phil,

I thinking about what you said in regards to fellowship or hanging out with buddies that are older etc, I tend to fall into this category as well. My hunting partners are both 70, one is bat shit crazy from Kentucky the other grunts at deer in September lol. When I lived in NC my neighbor was 80 and we do house project/yard work together and we would have happy hours like every day. He was a Korean War vet, and his uncle was in Patton's regiment in WWII. A lot of deer stories and amreican war history talk

I know there are Oedipal complexes, Napoleon complexes, and others. Not sure what a Grandpa complex is called. Lol

Or. . . You are simply an old soul in a young body. That is a good thing Jon.
