I'm in need of some work on an old single shot 20ga that I have had for probably 25+ years. It needs a new firing pin as well as the springs for the barrel release and shell ejector. Firing pin broke and the springs are just weak from age and use.

I know there are several gunsmiths nearby but I don't know anybody that has taken anything to them to be worked on. I'm not saying they are not good just don't know anything about them. With gunsmiths I want a reputable person and not some fly by night guy that tinkers with stuff here and there on the side. I just don't want to go out and shoot it after getting it back and it blowing up in my face.

I live in North Central Ohio but I can travel if need be.

Thanks in advance for the help.

I’d try and give it a whirl yourself. Worse case scenario, you take it to a gunsmith.....

But in the worst case, WHERE WOULD I GO? nobody seems to have a gunsmith anymore?

Back in my earlier days having a gunsmith that you knew and trusted was just as important as a good barber or mechanic lol. Just happens my old gunsmith passed away some years ago and I never looked for a replacement hence the reason the gun has needed fixed for over 20 years and has been sitting in my closet collecting dust. Can't get rid of it because it was my fathers and has memories with him and it's a pretty cool gun to tote around. Been on a number of tree rat and bunny hunts until the firing pin busted.

This place is in my neighborhood, NE Ohio. I have not been there. It's a new shop but there is a gunsmith that works part time there. He's a machinest at his day job and has been doing gunsmithing for 30 years following gun smith school. His name is Rich. Rich has done work for me and my father in recent days and in the past.

Let’s start if parts are available. What make and model shotgun?

That's the problem. I honestly don't have a clue. The gun was in a house fire at one time many years ago. The old gunsmith my dad and I knew cleaned all the rust off of it and re blued everything. In the process it took off the make model and serial number and the only thing left is where it was made. It was made in Brazil. I posted a pic of it in the gun porn section a few years ago. I'll go see if I can find the pic and if not I'll post up new pics of it.

These are the only marks left on the gun.

I believe the manufacture is F.I.E.

Correction. I guess from some quick reading F.I.E. was a company that imported guns from Brazil to be sold in the US.

I have an FIE single barrel 12 that my dad bought at woolworths when I was a kid. Nothing fancy but a very serviceable gun. Killed my first bunny with it.

Not sure what one of the 2 firing pins is the correct one. The old pin is broken off and the only way I would be able to know for sure it to take everything apart and look at the piece that is left.

Either way It looks like I would be able to get a replacement pin.

Check eBay for parts too. That's where I found parts for my side but side that Sam helped me fix.

If you take it a part now take pics as you do to remind yourself how stuff fit together In case it takes awhile to get parts.

That was my plan if I did this myself. I have always been a fan of taking pics as I disassemble things for the first time so I can remember how it all goes back together. To many times in the garage as a kid helping fix cars that we ended up with extra bolts or nuts and no clue where the came from lol. Anytime I take things apart now I always take pics. Back then my memory was better then it is now lmao.
