Hi! My name is Dexter. Me, my wife, of 7 yrs, and our 3 growing boys live in TX. We are planning a trip to Newark, Oh the wk of Nov 17 (well be arriving). My wife is meeting her sister's that she has never meet or seen since she was 4 (now 25). I would like to do some hunting while we're there. Can ya'll help me out with some input where to hunt, hunting rules, etc. Thank you

At that time you should be catching the tail end of the rut in Ohio.. However the days of the 17th and 18th are youth Shotgun season. So you will have to wear Orange if you hunt those two days (Sat, Sun), but do not have to wear it for the rest of the week. Newark is very close to Dillon and probably your best bet. Below is a link to a map of the public hunting area. Also below is a link to the regulations. You will be restricted to hunting with a bow over 40 pounds or a crossbow during that time. I would recommend obviously a license but also an Either sex deer tag (Vs an antlerless only). With the either sex tag you can shoot 1 buck or 1 doe. You can only shoot one buck a year in Ohio. Hunting hours are half hour before sunrise until a half hour after sunset. Except on the 17,18 for youth gun then hours are Sunrise to Sunset.

Hi Dexter, and welcome to the site.

First off, here's a like to the deer hunting section of the ODNR website http://www.ohiodnr.com/wildlife/dow/regulations/hunting_deer.aspx

You'll be hittin' it during archery season. Gun doesn't start until Nov 26th. Youth gun is on, though, on Nov 17-18 if the boys hunt.

I'm sure some of the guys here will chime in with some options for public land around that area here shortly. Should be a good time to be in Ohio!

Its never 30 or 40 except maybe once or so in dec then it stays like that in jan. In nov its usually 70 or 80 and no deer moving!

Yeah, it can range from low 30's to mid-70's in November. Usually by late November, the temps are down in the 40's for the most part. I remember one year a few years back when it was in the teens and single digits during Thanksgiving. Still one of the coldest bowhunts I have ever been on as I was perched over the creek in 12 degree weather!!!
