I'm guessing it's a dead horse image ? I'm also guessing that no matter what the DNR has done or will do in the future they will receive all the blame and none of the credit .

Chad , do you really think you need more deer in your area ? Would it improve your hunting?

How do you know what my hunting spots are like? I'm talking about the whole state.

I don't know your spots , so I apologize for mentioning you specifically . But your close enough to me I'm just assuming based on what I see in Wayne , Holmes Stark , tusc, Medina , and Richland county that there is a good number of deer . Are there as many as 10 yrs ago ? No , but there are still plenty. I don't think there needs to be more .
I have been fortunate enough to hunt a decent portion of Ohio . The area I see that was hurt by the extra tags was the large tracks of public land . And a large portion of the issues there was alot of NR hunters . I see the public lands improving by reducing NR pressure more so than by limiting tags . There are definitely portions of Ohio which need something done . But I strongly feel the largest portion of the state is in good shape .

I already regret even posting on this thread . Cause I see nothing good coming from this . Anything here which relates to deer just turns into a giant bitch session . Deer harvest is down, tag sales are down . But there are multiple factors at play , not just lower deer numbers . It's definitely one factor in the equation , but not the only one .

Once again Chad , sorry for mentioning you .You just happened to post just prior to me , and we're close enough geographicly .

Enjoy Jake!

Somewhat on topic, we did see 2 deer down here. It's weird being immersed in a fishing culture as a non-fisherperson. I dig the idea of it though as I love seafood about as much as I love venison. It's a nice counter-perspective to what I know and live.

Thanks . I'm looking forward to a break from work . Been crazy busy .

We have a flounder gigging trip chartered for Sunday night . My brother in law and I are taking Kai and my nephew. Hopefully they get to stick a few .

I'll get out and Wade gig a few nights also . My wife doesn't understand how I can be totally happy being by myself , in total darkness in the middle of a Marsh .
Picture mushroom hunting , but you get to stab em in the face when you find em . If I can keep from drowning my phone the first day there I'll post pictures .

From 1980 to present, hunting license sales have steadily decreased, even though the statewide deer population is without a doubt, larger today than it was then. If you just consider 2000 thru 2008, a time when the deer herd was rapidly increasing, hunting license sales still declined, even though the percentage of deer hunters as portion of the total hunting population remained stable. This isn't unique to Ohio...it's a national trend. To say that the recent decline in license sales is a result of fewer deer on the landscape is false.

Me too. This is just a reaccuring theme that's easily dispelled with facts. I'm out.

Mike, I don't know who referenced license sales, but I know I didn't. I always refer to tag sales. Also, when I say tag sales I mean all that can be used for harvesting deer.......in Ohio. Do you have those numbers? I'm guessing it shows a different trend. Just a WAG! :p.

.

Interesting position Mike. Especially since you were standing two feet away from me in 2012 when your buddy Mike Tonkovich said flat-out he did not believe the DOW would accomplish their final population reduction goals because people would quit hunting.

While I will not disagree with you that license sales have declined since the 80s, to state that the decline in the deer population had NOTHING to do with a decline in license sales is simple intellectually dishonesty. The only thing that you have "so easily dispelled with facts" here today, is your credibility on the topic.

So what part of the graph are people disagreeing with?
None of it. I dont disagree with the graph at all. But to claim that the graph is absolute evidence that the decline in license sales has absolutely nothing to do with the decline in population is intilectually dishonest at best. Especially when he was standing right there beside a group of us when Tonk said point blank that people would stop hunting due to the DOW efforts to reduce the population.

Its like me showing you a graph that displays the drop in porn magazine sales since the 70s, then claiming the graph is proof that the Internet played no part in killing magazines because it didn't exist in the 80s. For me to make such a claim knowing damn well Hue Hefner himself told me the Internet would hurt porn magazine sales is intellectually dishonest.

Please stick around. Bawana as well. I have never voted Democrat but I want to hear what what they say. No different here. In order to make my personal opinions and/or choices, I want to hear everyone's opinion/facts/argument/etc.

I can see sales dropping since the 80s. Makes sense. That is due to multiple reasons. Traditions have been lost (for multiple reasons to include declining birds to shoot, deer, etc.). Part of it is a society problem as the family unit has declined dramatically over the last 30-40yrs. I'm sure predators play into it. And I'm certain the decline in deer numbers are part of it. Is the decline in deer numbers ALL due to ODNR? I doubt it. I believe it is tied into what they are spraying on the fields, loss of habitat, and genetically engineered seeds just as much as increased opportunity. Lower fertility levels is part of it in my opinion. I simply do not have the scientific evidence to prove it. BUT, looking at earlier maturity in our youth, increase in obesity in our country, and lower fertility rates in humans. . . . Hard to believe it doesn't have "something" to do with the hormones, steroids, preservatives, RoundUp ready seeds, etc. Humans are changing things. I don't believe we are the only animals being effected on this planet. I think the 4 legged animals are taking a hit too.
