This was sure a great day! I was so disappointed I wasn't there with Dad and Ron when dad killed his first deer with his crossbow. It was just after Thanksgiving and I am helping my family at the house near Cincinnati put up our X-mas tree and other decorations when out of the blue I get a phone call from my dad telling me he just killed his first buck with his crossbow. He went hunting and never mentioned to Ron or I he was going down to our cabin and hunt awhile this particular day. He caught Ron by surprise as well but he at least was able to help dad field dress his deer and get him out of the woods. He actually saw two bucks walking up the point he was on before he shot and ended up shooting the smaller of the two because he didn't have as good a shot at the larger one but he didn't care.lol GOTTA LOVE IT!

This 6 point had a big body and appeared to have some age to him. We were very proud of him!!! It was cold enough he was able to let him hang a few days till I came down for the Sunday before gun season and I got to help skin out his deer and take pictures and video of him and his deer. This will be forever etched in both of our memories!

Dad and his deer:

This isn't hunting but a pic from back in 1969 I think of dad and Ron and I on a fishing trip we all three talked about years later. We lived in Zanesville at the time but dad took us to a farm pond across the river from Duncan Falls on a farm owned by the Dozers(sp?). I caught the one and only channel cat that weighed close to 4 pounds this day. I couldn't hardly hold it up! rotflmao
The farmer caught that cat from the Muskingum river nearly 15 years prior and turned it loose in his pond but could never catch it again. Hence the term, "beginners luck" was born. lol

Thanks Phil! We love and miss him so much!

Here's another pic of me and dad. This pic is so special because he wanted to be a part of our celebration when things came together for us after a successful hunt. Here is him and I after I killed my best buck to date. He loved his Buckeyes and Indians if you didn't catch that!lol

This is a pic of me and about 15 years ago after we got back from a salmon trip in Michigan
This is us with my nephew in 2005 I think. We all took these bucks pretty close to the house, heck, maybe 2 miles being the furthest
This is us on the St. Joe. Literally 2 seconds after my nephew snapped this pic we had a 20lb King crush the rod directly behind Dad. Talk about a chinese fire drill. I will have to get some of our older pics on here

What a great thread! Some awesome pictures out there fellas. I don't have a ton of hunting photos taken with my dad, but I will see what I can dig up!

Probably one of many bow hunts when I just tagged along. Idk how he did it but he took me with him. Sure glad he did. don't know what I'd do without this sport.

Great thread. Sadly, it has made me realize just how few pictures I have of me and my dad together in the outdoors. I wish I had a scanner... I do have quite a few from back in the day when I was just a kid.

Great post I never had the chance to hunt deer with my dad as he passed away early. He did show me how to cut up deer after getting a strong tasting CO deer. He taught me to soak deer cuts in cold water until the blood stops and I still use the same process 51 yrs later.

Dad only dabbled in hunting, so there's only a couple handfuls of memories from the field with my dad. Really no good pics either unfortunately. We did double up on a drive at my uncle's back in the early 2000s. The buck he shot 5 minutes in to his first hunt on the farm after he bought it in 2005. Not sure he's hunted deer out there since. I actually missed this deer and it ran straight to him as he was walking down the hill to find his spot. It would be 12 years before I'd ever shoot at a buck on the farm again.

Good shit! Thanks for digging this one up, Dave!

These are from a duck hunt together last fall. It was an incredible day. Bright sun, lots of birds, awesome dog work...Just an all around great time in the marsh. Definitely one of our most memorable hunts together.
