Also, I believe that was around the time that squirrel hunting was the hit. Not 100% on those dates, it’s been a couple years since I got into all those stories.

Pretty cool shit! Think about the guns back then. Lots of double barrel shot guns plus Winchester just came out with the 1897 pump with the thumb buster hammer lol.

1899...yes, I would assume it was locals.
There was still a lot of trappers and waterfowl poachers traveling to find fur and feathers back then. They would move from area to area staying in hobo shacks and trespassing to get what they were after. Lots of feathers and stuff for women's hats and such.
