Free Lifetime License for Killing Coyote

http://abcnews4.com/news/local/sc-d...um=National Shooting Sports Foundation | NSSF

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) - South Carolina's Department of Natural Resources has added a new incentive to its coyote tagging and bounty program.

DNR officials announced Wednesday they are offering a free lifetime hunting license to anyone who kills and reports one of the coyotes DNR has tagged and released back into the wild.

The South Carolina General Assembly in 2016 and 2017 gave DNR approval to tag and release 16 coyotes around the state. The free hunting license is offered as an incentive for people to kill the animals in an effort to help control coyote population.

According to the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources' website, coyotes first appeared in the upsate in 1978 but are now present in all South Carolina counties.

The website also reports that coyotes were illegally imported to South Carolina for hound running, and eastern migration of coyotes has also resulted in the natural expansion of them in South Carolina.

SCDNR said that anyone who kills a tagged coyote needs to save the carcass for verification and contact it to receive a complimentary lifetime hunting license. The lifetime license may be issued to a designee of the winner’s choice.

SCDNR said so far eight of the 18 tagged coyotes from last year have been reported.

Potentially, 24 tagged coyotes still remain that would be eligible for the lifetime license incentive.

The math wrong on this or is it just my eyes? At one point it says 16 tagged yote and then it says 18 and at the end it says 24. So how many are really tagged?

Cool idea though.

Looks like 16 in 2016 and 2017 so that's 32. 8 taken so 24 left. I guess?

What I'm I missing here? They want the coyote population thinned out, but then they catch them, tag them and release them back into the wild. I guess they want an incentive for more hunters to hunt them, but these same coyotes will breed and breed then their offspring will follow suit. Would have been better off eliminating them when trapped...

It's easy they want to give out Life time licences. I guess?

Maybe they release them with a rubber-band but collar?

I can't imagine Killing however many it was they tagged would amount to as many as will be killed now. Those rascalls have a bounty on their heads and they all look the same. I think it's a really smart way to kill possibly hundreds of yotes. It would be cool if they could somehow tie numbers to the program and we could see the impact. I'd bet it's going to be very successful.

Heard a recipe for killing yotes that shows similar redneck ingenuity and it too supposedly originated in SC.

Soak the green Scotch Brite pads in bacon grease after cutting into chunks big enough a coon/possum can't swallow. Yote eats it, but can pass it. Binds up their guts and they die a slow death. Disclaimer: I have never tried this, but I do like dead yotes...

I have a hard time believing that would work. A yote knows what a piece of meat feels like in their mouth, and would probably spit it out.
