From my experience at Fort Knox Kentucky "intensively managed and restricted" means "thats where we let the base top brass hunt.

At Fort Knox the process was everyone met at the range office Friday evening, depending on what areas were active or closed everyone picked a couple zones they wanted to hunt. Names were put in a bucket and drawn for certain areas. Before and after hunting you had to check in with the range office.

Funny thing is our base commander was an avid hunter and I never saw him at a single drawing. Lol.

In the late 1970's my brothers and I hunted both Ft Knox and Ft Campbell on their hunt weekends. Never got anything but had a great time.
Some real crazy GI'S in the near base bars at night. One crazy bastard wanted to be a paid hit man when he got out. My brother was over lately and we talked about those memories. Weird!
