Ok, you have made up your mind, stop trying to convince yourself. Go sell that diesel and get ure grocery getting, pavement pounding, jap-pleasing, high resale value vehicle already. Just make sure you keep one wash mit for the paint and one for the wheels. God forbid you put a scratch on it:smiley_baby:

Yup...it's big choice to make. I'd love to keep it as a dedicated tow rig but the wife is against me owning it just to sit. I'd rock the shit out of an old Chevette every day!
Got 60k laying around. I know a guy who'll build you a mint Chevelle. Oh. You said chevette. Got 2k laying around. Lmao.

Lol, WTF, u guys are just pushing all the buttons. After spending 4yrs in the crash test industry with an ATD manufacturer, I promise you it is in everyone's best interest to keep them rear facing as long as possible. Hippies? More like extremely intelligent makes and models from across the globe!

We own a 3/4 ton diesel and a town n country. Sounds like a mini van is what you are really searching for Joe. Fuggin thing is spunky and gets 23 in town and 27-28 highway:smiley_clap: Hit a button and doors and shit open for you. When the little ones are big enough to handle themselves, they just crawl right in. You just have to get in and strap them in. Same setup as my truck, 3 more car seats. Fugg, we have 6 car seats not counting grandparents.....lawdy.

I understand that it's safer. It's safer for adults to rear face too. Safety recomendations are worthless if they're overboard ridiculous. Recomend something that offers maximum safety within the realm of practicality. My problem is they keep changing it higher and higher and now it's beyond the point where it's useful information. The new standard is rear facing until 2 years old or they outgrow the weight limit of the seat. They even make mention that you can buy a seat that goes up to 45 lbs now. Can you imagine how cramped a 45 lb two year old would be rear facing with their knees in their chest. That's like me saying i recomend for maximum safety that for forklift operation you need maximum PPE to include a complete fire suit and full face respirator might want to throw in a bomb suit too if operating at heights above 2 feet. Practicality has to be factored in or the recomendations is worthless.

A mother fucking mini van. Hell to the no. I know they're nice, crazy accessories and such. I just don't think they offer enough in trade in for my balls. Lmao.

I agree on the full PPE, fire suit and respirator. These fuggars are driving them inside closed buildings all day all Willy-Nilly and shit, burning up that liquid propane or off-gassing all those released electrons from those huge battery banks. Bomb suit might be a bit much until it is a 10yr old unit but then I agree, probably handy. Would hate to not be prepared when one of those 33lb's decides to lose its mind!

Seriously though, sounds like a dodge is the best fit for you. With their elephant ear mirror design, you will fit in with the other ball clinching, little dick syndrome drivers. Just be sure to keep them in the up position so we can see u from 5 miles away.

P.S.....your balls are no longer yours - u.r.married.with.a.kid:smiley_coolpeace:

I was thinking those mirror extensions. You know with the cinch straps. Just leave them on 24x7.. maybe brace em so I can take out mailboxes n shit.

No brother my balls are still securely where they should be despite the wife and kid. You think this southern man would marry a woman who wears the pants. Lol. Some people like them but she would cut my balls off if I came rolling up in a mini van. Per her words no way she would drive one. Shit she wouldnt even agree to rent one for a road trip we were taking. A big SUV is more her style. Luckily she loves her car and the car seat issue isn't that bothersome to her.

Myself on the other hand I need a truck, one I can haul kids in comfortably, put a lot of miles on, and can tow a loader when needed.

Just realize- the mileage isn't all that. Factor in 10-12qts every oil change. Factor expensive filters. When it is time to buy parts they are more money. With the ultra low sulphur diesel, use factor in some additives if you buy an older one. Or plan on injector/pump issues. Not sure if the newer trucks have similar issues or not.

Truthfully, Adam is right. What you are looking for is a minivan. You aren't alone. I couldn't do it either. My wife likes her third row seat, gas guzzling barge of a SUV.

What sort of loader you hauling? Weight?

Don't forget- Joe likes to debate. We never know if he genuinely wants info, he is stirring the pot, or if he will admit he doesn't need as much truck as he thinks. Lol

It's finding the balance between wants/needs/practical...it also sounds like he's already sold on a Mega Cab. I have one that 95% of the time is driving around with one person in it and hardy ever has a trailer behind it...I'd call that a waste. Sure I average around 20 mpg, but the truck isn't being a truck.

I know when Joe says something, he already has the answer and no one will change that. I think I've been posting to put my personal thoughts on my situation on paper...lol.

I'm no stranger to cost. I drive a 400hp Cadillac on a corvette powertrain. Oil changes are 7 quarts of Mobile 1 super synthetic with a $19 dollar mobile 1 filter. Premium gas only at 19 mpg. Talk about expensive parts. They're vett prices. Battery $185. Alternator $290. One wheel hub $195. Hell one rotor is $111. Lol. I'm not scared of diesel maintenance costs.

The loader is a large kubota with a rear bucket. Probably only about 6k lbs if I had to guess. Well within the range of a 1500. The biggest factor is mileage vs depreciation

You're partially right. I have my mind made up on a large cab diesel. Which year, model, mileage and engine is still up in the air.

Joe, can't help ya when it comes to resale value.

J, no blinders. I don't buy things with resale value in mind, just best decision for my needs and budget. Therefore no blinders, just a truck manufacturer that has proven time and time again they have the best "package" that fits my needs. There will never be a foreign owned vehicle in my drive, but you can keep trying.:pickle:

I'd say Giles is spot on.
It's finding the balance between wants/needs/practical...

From the outside looking in. . . I'd say you need a Tundra. For that balance of maintenance costs, depreciation, mileage, and needs, I would seriously look at them. There is a really good chance my next truck will be a Tundra or F150. It will be my driver, haul kids, do light towing but I'd keep my dually for the heavy hitting.

Tundra provides plenty of American jobs...most American built truck made. I don't care who owns it, it's providing Americans with jobs more then the rest of them.
