What did you do for the deer today?

What's that one fruit tree that's like crack for deer? Drawing a blank on the name but the fruit is the size of golf all maybe? You don't see many around but the ones you do, will have deer going to it....

And of course as soon as I hit enter it comes too me lol

I have a persimmon behind my house that the deer love. It was there when I moved here. I have thought about trying to grow some, but from what I have heard they can be tricky as we are right at the northern part of their range.

Been here in SW Ohio 42 yrs now and have only seen 1 persimmon tree. It was on the farm that we did crop control permits on. That farm is now a housing development. Hell they probably cut it down. Damn they was good after a hard frost.

Set another stand and cleared shooting lanes. Dumped some corn. I'll be feeding the coons TOO but that's just the cost of doing business lol. Hoping to whack a doe at that spot pretty early for the freezer as I noticed today I'm down to 2 packs of ground left [emoji33]

I tossed a couple trophy rocks out back today. TSC had a hell of sale going or someone messed up, either way, I bought what they had on hand. I know it isn't the proper time of year for minerals, but I figure I'll throw some corn on top of them and see what happens.

Gotta go clean up apples tomorrow!

Well, so far so good, I greased up my upper feeder poles & encased them in cayenne pepper flakes. The coon hasn't touched them since. The deer ? they've become kinda lazy ....

Not as many as I had anticipated. Maybe 5 at a time ? Before I messed with the poles, they were climbing all over. The corn level is where I would want it to be. In this past week's pics, they have not been touching the poles. Just the same, I have a cage for the dispenser arriving soon.

In all my time in the woods in Ohio i have only found one. It was in champaign county north of Urbana in a woodblock. I found it shed hunting and saw the woody cap, thought no way then kicked around until i saw some seeds. If i hadn't grown up in the south i never would have known what i was looking at.

The street that connects to my culdesac is named Persimmons. It was given that name for all the surrounding persimmons when the housing development was being built years ago. For all the times I've been in the woods here, I've come across only one of the trees.
