This weather has me thinking about minerals. Christine bought me some trophy rocks a few months back...is it still a bit early? I usually wait till March.

I did put some more corn out yesterday as well. I’ve got some pellets out in a tub. But really haven’t seen any deer out back, so I was waiting to put it out until deer were around.

This happens every year...deer yard up across the road and I start to freak out. [emoji23]

Minerals should be applied year round.

Most put out in Feb when deer begin to seek them. Then add again in 6 months.

Ideally, 4 times per year.

Does like them too.. Helps with lactating .. get'em out .. I try to keep a rock or two going year round

I usually put out minerals about twice per year for an established site. First time usually in Feb/March and then I usually will do it again in May/June.

If starting a new site though I think the earlier the better so they can find it. May not hurt to throw some corn there to start it as well.

We fed them a little snack! 37 bushels worth. Trying to keep them close till they shed.
As you can see we've got quite a bit of snow since last week. It's a good thing as it will keep us from shed hunting the timber and bumping the deer off the farm to shed elsewhere!

[emoji1360][emoji23] you guys think it’s too early to put minerals out? I’ve got a couple sites established that this will be the second year for. I usually don’t put them out til April. Thoughts?

That's actually the third load! If u look off to the front left of my truck you can see some birds picking at the remains of the previous load.

We'll get some salt/minerals out in a month or so. Not sure if it can ever be too early.

With the amount of deer you have, how long does that last? I wouldn’t think it’s last more then a few days.

It really depends on the weather. If there is no snow cover, it seems to last a few weeks as they head off and feed on browse. With the snow cover we have now, it will probably only last a week or so.
Our other big food plot still has plenty of corn/beans left in it (it is about 1/2 mile from this one), but this one was picked clean over a month ago. I'm sure the deer head back and forth between the plot and pile, so that probably helps keep it there a bit longer too.
We have cams on the pile, I'll see if I can get some pics up of the 'crowd'. The pile is nice as it concentrates them and lets us know who is still carrying.

Sounds like fun. You guys have the program down pretty good, it works! Good luck

That should result in some great shed hunting! The only good shed year I ever had was when I had 7-8 bucks being held tight from the golden acorn chum. It was fun. Found about every one [emoji1598]
